I'd like to return to my blog by sharing one of the most interesting murals I'd been hired to do yet!
Near the end of this last winter I befriended a man from Chicago, who owns numerous unique businesses and was looking to open another here in downtown Nashville, TN. The theme: An adult arcade ...he named it Headquarters Beercade or also known as HQ Beercade. Specializing in hand crafted beers and mind blowing ambiances. His ideas beyond extravagant and brilliant; I had never seen anything like them. Any ways, he became aware of my artistic side and thus came the mural I created over a wall of open books....which later spilled onto the ceiling and up a stairwell and over a window...lol
So, the idea was had. He pictured a wall made of books, Shel Silverstein books to be exact and across them some image. Let me now say...I had no idea how I was going to create a wall of books with a 3D mural painted (?) over the tops of them, but I told him I could do it! I wanted so badly to have my first official mural down town historic Nashville. Before long I had drafted an image he loved and hundreds upon hundreds of Silverstein books began taking over my living room.
I convinced him to let me create the piece at home in sections that we could later transport that would fit together like puzzle pieces. (I did this so I wouldn't look dumb trying to figure out how to do it,lol ) I had to move nearly everything out of my living room, and I'm pretty sure my daughter thought I had gone mad. But in the end it some how came together without any real plan. lol I think that was the key to my success. Well, I did have to due over one section right below her nose...somehow a dog image ended up directly under her nose which looked a bit too much like a Hitler stash...but aside from that...lol SO- next, you will see a little photo timeline of the mural I created over open books. ...
And...before the nose job
