DIY RHINESTONE ART / DIAMOND PAINTING
Hey Steemians!
Okay first of all, I would like to thank everyone who welcomed me on my very first post introducing myself and my pets.
I'd also like to thank @fukumineko @mermaidvampire @junebride and of course, my good old friend @ishanvirtue for inspiring me to take another step in writing this post.
What is Diamond Painting?
Diamond painting (aka Rhinestone Art) is a relatively new art form where it breaks images down into patterns, very similar to cross stitch. Small, glossy tiles are then applied to canvas to make the pattern.

Tiles, or most commonly called as rhinestones is the main material used along with a sticky canvas wherein all you have to do is stick those rhinestones on it. Very easy, right?
I have discovered this hobby last year, 2017, I was way too addicted with cross stitch back then. I tried searching for patterns online and other inspirations that I can do then I came across the term diamond cross stitch.
Yep, that's my reaction alright. Is that even possible? I've seen cross stitch with beads on them but I never knew I could do it with beads or stones alone. I actually thought I had to sew beads all the way! (My imagination gets the best of me most of the time.) Okay so there I go, click, click and away. Google led me through different websites, which had all these amazing patterns!
Lovely, aren't they?
From animals, fairies, cartoon characters and even people! You name it, its possible! They can even make a custom picture! I don't know about you, but it sure did spice up my interest! So I did some research on where I can buy my kits. I've found a few online shops that are based internationally and I'm really hesitant because I don't want to pay for custom fees - I had a really bad experience years ago wherein my product was like 40php and I had to pay another 120 just to claim it. I never knew about custom fees before - I was at fault anyway. Okay so I tried to search for online shops based on the Philippines and lucky me, I saw one on Facebook! I asked for the prices and whoa they were definitely not cheap (at least for me). So I took my time in saving up in order for me to buy my first kit.
Here's a picture of the first pattern I ordered.
So here comes the most agonizing part! Waiting for the mail. Again, I did research on the best practices I can do to make my diamond painting easier. I found a Facebook based group called 5D Diamond Painting - Crystal Cross Stitch and I joined - there are a lot of members sharing their stunning works and pro tips which are very useful!
Finally here comes the mail!!
Sooo what's in the kit?
So the kit is composed of resins - lots of them.
This picture is from the current project I'm working on, didn't got the chance to take a picture of the first batch that arrived.
There are 2 types of resins or drills:
- Round
- Square
Here's a picture of both, on the left part is the round drill and beside it is the square drill which is already pasted on the canvas. The picture above is also an example of a square drill.
Green trays which you can use to flip your resins for easier picking, a picking pen and wax. The wax makes sure that the resins stick to the pen when you pick them up. If you're lucky, sometimes you get tweezers along with the package kit too! And of course, your sticky canvas that has the pattern on it.
Let's start!
Okay so I never really got the chance to take note of the time or exact number of days while I'm working on it but it took me roughly around 2 to 3 weeks to finish everything because of the holidays. I only got to work on it for an hour or two each day.
Almost done with Darth Vader's face!
Second to the last panel!
Aaaaand the finished product!
The whole process take a lot of time, back and neck pains but it's all worth it! π€π€ Thank you so much for reading my post until the end guys! Here's a picture of my kitty~~
