I use this 'stippling' technique quite often when painting clouds, it provides a lot of detail like in your coat. Simple but useful. With clouds though, I finish them of with a dry water color brush to smoothen the surface to enhance the fluffiness.

Sometimes, the easiest techniques provide the best results, right? So it's great to just play around with different brush strokes.
