Art therapy inking a mech robot w/ iPad Pro and Apple Pencil!

Good day, friends! Leading up to the holidays, my schedule was stacked with shoots throughout Pennsylvania and NYC. Add the usual family strains and travel and I've been coping with a palpable amount of stress. Some people go to therapy. Some tumble in to an alcohol or drug induced haze. My therapy is drawing, which is daily challenge to fit in. During critical stress mass, though, I make the time no matter how significant the effort.

As many of you are aware, I'm working on a Steemit inspired comic surrounding a near future world where cryptocurrency surpasses the use and value of physical money. It's going to be called Cryptopia and you can see many of the characters and read the full script of the first issue in my previous post, "Full script of issue #001 of Cryptopia, my Steemit inspired comic!"

This sketch, however, has nothing to do with that. This wasn't for anything. It was just to balance myself. During times of art therapy, I tend to draw the same things I did while escaping classes in high-school or during study hall. Monsters, aliens and machines. Something about getting lost in the details of imaginary creations is cathartic for me.

This particular drone I imagine as a solution to a future warfare where projectile arms are rendered useless. Maybe some sort of energy field, similar to an steady EMP, that disables missiles or guns. This mech was an answer to that defense, equipped with a 360º rotating torso mechanism and brutal blade appendages, powered by a small nuclear reactor. Thousands of these soldiers would burn over the battlefield, slicing enemies to shreds.

Not part of an existing story, but fun to think about. Especially considering I currently do not have a sci-fi story on deck. All done on the iPad Pro using Apple Pencil and Procreate. Here's a short speed drawing of the process. First think I've had a chance to ink in a while. Very fun!

Nice work. I recently picked up iPad Pro & Pencil too. Very much liking Procreate, but SketchClub app has a really useful coloring feature... shape fill w gradient.

I've found that wearing a cotton glove with fingers cut off is necessary to prevent odd behavior on all of the apps.

I've never really noticed any issues with the palm rejection, but I use a glove from smudgeguard.com that's very nice. It just keeps the screen cleaner and the hand gliding smoothly. I definitely use the cotton glove for paper & pencil, but this is a smoother fabric that seems to move better on screens.

Your comic sounds pretty interesting xD and nice sketch, UV

Great work most definitely. I submitted your post for SteemTrail consideration under #comics and #art .

What a cool ass looking character. It looks like it could be the leader of something or part of a robot like foot clan full of these killer drones, really awesome design. I need to get some time I want to check out that script you linked to. Thanks for sharing the art and video.

Wow, super nice ! Upfollowed :)
