10 amazing cities on the rocks

There are some amazing feats of architecture in our world that are not just beautifully constructed building, but something more... we will talk about the unification of architecture and nature. Your attention is the town built on the cliffs and rocks.

  1. Castellfollit de La Rocha.

    Castellfollit de La ROCA is considered one of the most beautiful villages in the region of Catalonia in Spain. It is built on a cliff of basalt, between two rivers. Most of the buildings seem to be on the edge of a cliff, creating the illusion that they could fall at any moment. The whole village stretches less than a kilometer in length. The oldest part of the village was built in the middle Ages and is composed of narrow streets. The buildings here are made of volcanic rock.

  2. Rocamadour.

    Rocamadour is a tiny village founded on a rocky cliff above the gorge on the river Alzou in South-Western France. The buildings of Rocamadour rise step by step in the direction of the cliff. The village, which dates back to the 12th century, was almost abandoned to their fate due to the war and the French revolution. Today it is again popular here every year attracts thousands of tourists.

  3. Bonifacio.

    Bonifacio is a city in the South of Corsica. The city and its fortifications extend along the cliff tops with a height of 70 metres. The city cliffs have been washed by the ocean so that the buildings on the edge of a precipice, seem to overhang the water.

  4. Acapulco.

    Acapulco is the original Mexican resort town which took a prominent place in history since 1950 is here that escape tired from all Hollywood stars and millionaires. However, it remains a popular tourist destination among many people.

  5. Mesa Verde.

    Messa Verde is in southwest Colorado and is home to ancient people. This is the most significant archeological preserve of native American culture in the United States. In the 12th century, the Indian tribes started to build houses in shallow caves and under the rock ledges along the canyon walls. By 1300, all the Indians left Mesa Verde, but their location has been preserved perfectly. The reason for their sudden departure remains unexplained. Theories range from crop failures due to drought, prior to the invasion of foreign tribes from the North.

  6. Highlands Bandiagara.

    The plateau of Bandiagara is sandy cliff in Mali that rises almost 500 meters. These cliffs are dotted with ancient cave housing the people. They carved their caves so that their dead relatives could be buried high above the ground to avoid flash floods, which are characteristic of this area.

  7. Rhonda.

    Ronda is located in the province of Malaga in Spain. The city is located in the mountains with a height of 760 meters and is split into two parts by the river Guadalevin. To help the tourists there are three bridges that cross the canyon. The architecture of the city got their traits from the Romans and Moors who once ruled the region

  8. Al Hayara.

    Al Hajjara is a historical cliff city in the Mountains of Yemen, located to the West of the city of Manakha. This is one of the most impressive and easily accessible mountain villages in Yemen. The village was literally built into the mountain during the extraction of stone. Al Hajar exists since the 12th century. Such structures as silos and water tanks, allowed this village to withstand long sieges.

  9. Positano.

    Positano is one of the most popular attractions in Italy. The city seemed to be scattered from top to bottom, all the way to the slope leading down to the coast. In the 20th century, Positano was a poor fishing village, but today it is very popular among tourists.

  10. The Island Of Santorini.

    Santorini is one of Greek volcanic Islands. He is known for his great dramatic landscapes and amazing sunsets, which can be observed from the cities of Fira and Oia. Oia was built on top of sharp rocks at the sleeping volcano, while Fira, the famous tapestry of Venetian architecture with a number of other styles. Among the snow-white houses on the streets of these cities many restaurants, taverns and hotels.
