I can definitely understand your opinions on Fairey
The one thing I really like about Shepard Fairey is that over a pretty long career already - and his artistic fame as one of the wealtiest "urban artists" is that I truly believe that if he got paid or did not - as long as he still had his loving wife and kids - and as long as he could support the costs of creating art and also funding large mural projects - I think he really wouldn't be much different an individual that he currently is.
He always seems to speak and act very humble and seems intrinsically appreciative of all he has made of his world and contributed to society, humankind, humanity

for me his work has many parallels with graffiti and street art, i think you might like it.
