Major Arcana - Drapes of Cynosure | card № 15 The Devil

in art •  6 years ago
The archetype figure of The Devil existed long before the Church demonized him. He was the philanderer Greek God Pan also known as the Roman God, Faunus.

His animalesque look, but especially his erotic and wild nature was dangerous for a Christian human soul.
So the church inhibited the sinful creature, mutating the old spirit in the hand behind pestilence, cataclysmic events and instigator/temptress for the human soul.

Feared and loathed, the hermaphroditic figure was and it's a reminded of the dormant animal-state within.

certainly 😈

So are all of these tarot cards your own drawings and interpretations @lady-idra? Tell me more :)

I really appreciate the text that you wrote accompanying each card, @lady-idra :) They are very interesting and provides deeper look into each arcana :)

Yes, the devil has been demonized (for lack of better words lol) through the conceptualization of the idea of sin. But really, we are all, all of us, beasts as well as noble spirits :) The duality inside us is a natural state, though of course there are inner battles, it doesn't mean that our beastly side is unnatural...

Love this card very much, @lady-idra <3
