Create your own reference material for a unique effect

I decided to describe the process of creating one of my drawings. I wish to note that this is just one of the many ways I use to get an interesting picture ;)

I start by making a few pictures of my plaster skull which I set on a stand.
I've done a lot of pictures with a lot of different clothes on the skull. Having already a lot of skull libraries to choose from, I sketched the first sketch in photoshop. In the meantime I pasted one of the skulls, at the earlier sketch. This photo served as a reference for shading the rest of the body. From a nearby shop I bought a sweet plant which later served as horns for our character. A slice of bread is the only picture from the internet. Simply I did not want to make pictures of bread. I'm too lazy ;p
The texture of the bread was great for aging and perforating the character.
But the final result I found: ... pretty average ;/

At this stage I decided to find inspiration that introduces a story into the picture.
By browsing the internet I fell into the picture ''american gothic'' whit inspired me to finish my work by adding a next skull and burning buildings in the background.
