Northern lights painting technique

in art •  7 years ago  (edited)

I wanted to share with you Steemians this cool painting technique I happily stumbled upon by accident recently. I decided to mix some white acrylic paint with some food colouring I had, and mixed it up in layers and poured it on the canvas. I let the paint and dye slide across without manipulating it. I love the cloudy northern lights effect it made. Afterwords I added the mountains and tiny stars. Experimenting and trying new things with art can lead to some beautiful accidents, it’s a fun part of the process. Let me know if you have any cool art techniques you accidentally stumbled upon. Here are some of the stages below before the final piece. 5C679294-EFF1-484A-B127-C45C99F3A0E8.jpeg

Love it @lillym. For me the pleasure in art is all about the experimentation - its like a journey without a destination. You just don't know where you'll end up and sometimes it's wonderful!

Thanks @adamfryda-art. Absolutely! That’s the beauty and fun of it for sure. It’s great to surprise yourself by trying something new.
