Konstantin Egorovich Makovsky (1839-1915) - master of household and historical genre. He was born in Moscow in the family of E. I. Makovsky, one of the founders of the Moscow School of painting, sculpture and architecture, which Konstantin graduated in 1857. He continued his studies at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. In 1870 he became a co-founder member of the Association of traveling art exhibitions.
In the late 1870s in Makovsky's work there was a turn to the departure from the modernity. His favorite genre was the historical genre, the image of scenes from Russian life 16-17 centuries. Paintings on historical themes brought the artist awards and international recognition.
The painting "Boyarynya by the window" depicts a young rich woman, a representative of the highest aristocracy of Moscow Russia.
Of great importance in women's Russian costume belonged to the headgear. The girls wore loose hair or one braid, which was woven with ribbons, gold and pearl threads.
