Traditional Oil, Acrylic, and Watercolor Paintings

in art •  8 years ago

I don't just paint digitally. I paint with traditional mediums as well. In fact, I think traditional painting is incredibly useful for the digital painter and concept artist. I learn so much when I take the time to paint something in oils or acrylics. Digital painting is wonderful but breeds some bad habits. The first being a sense of instant gratification. I can spend 4 hours painting something that would take me 4 weeks in oil paints. So traditional painting forces you to slow down and smell the roses in your paintings which makes you better at color theory, composition and so on.

Traditional media also just gets you better at observation. There is no "undo" so you have to make sure you are being observant with your painting as you go. There is also a meditative quality and sense of immense satisfaction when you finish a painting that took you weeks to do. The following are some traditional paintings I created.

"Saxon" Acrylics on 12" x 16" canvas board.

"Cthulhu"  Oils on 12" x 16" canvas board.

"Knight"  Acrylics on 12" x 16" canvas board.

"Man at Arms"  Acrylics on 12" x 16" canvas board.

"Ranger"  Oils on 12" x 16" canvas board.

"Desert"  Oils on 12" x 16" canvas board.

"Warrior"  Acrylics on 12" x 16" canvas board.

"Undead Soldier" Watercolors on 11" x 15" watercolor paper

I have many more traditional paintings that need to be scanned/photographed so more will be coming in the future. Hopefully these can tide people over for now. These are also for sale as well if anyone is interested.

this beautiful.

Cool Cthulu.

Thank you!

Thanks log, I like the characters a lot. The landscape seems out of place but it's good too.

Thanks. The landscape was me trying something new. I wanted to try and paint rocks with thick blobs of paint on a palette knife. Thats probably why its out of place since i dont normally paint that way haha. Thanks a ton though. More to come!

Great stuff!!

Nice Paintings
