Let us have a look at how to draw a basic - 3D Japanese Koi with my step by step tutorial.

STEP 1: LET'S BEGIN

-a sketch paper and pencil is all you need.

Start it by drawing the shape of its head, fins on either side of the head and tail by tracing them like triangular shapes but without the pointy end. Draw the rest of the koi fish by tracing the lines back so that they create a small body. (Here's a hint: make a deep U shape.)

STEP 2: ADD A LITTLE TEXTURE

-Add a little detail for fins. Draw a sharp fin. Next, draw the back fin. Then, finish up the body by tracing lines that will make it pointy at the end.

STEP 3: KEEP ADDING DIFFERENT EFFECTS

I colored the fins first with the use of oil pastel and colored pencils (Black, Red, Orange and a little yellow to make the dark color lighter.)

STEP 4: SHADOWING

-Make the left uncolored subject darker to make it more awesome.

FINDING THE RIGHT ANGLE FOR YOUR KOI'S SHADOW

In choosing the place for your shadow is very important. (Here's a hint: First, know where is your light or sun. The shadow is always opposite of the direction where your light is facing.)

-Darken the shadow to make it more real.

STEP 5: ENHANCING

Nature provides us with the most scenic views to be showed on a portrait. You can add color around this subject in purpose to give life to your art. This blue colored oil pastel acts as water for 3D Japanese Koi

Nice, I love that you have included all stages of the process. I think it adds so much to see a piece of art come to life slowly, from first sketchy lines to finished product. I am a fan of yours already after reading just a few of your posts, I think you are going to do well here! Keep it up! Cheers - Carl

Cheers for that @carlgnash! Thank you. You've been an active commentor. :) Keep steeming!

It's great right? It's funny I was mentioned in the post. All I did was encourage her do make her next post (which is this) to be really detailed. And she did - her instructions are really clear and precise.

Too bad someone was faster than me by a few seconds to propose, haha.

Haa! Haa! Don't worry. You're also as talented as an artists. :D

Hehe. Salamat.
