Art Is A Line Around Your Thoughts, The Art Nouveau Visionary And Austrian Symbolist Painter Gustav Klimt And Lifeball, The Annual AIDS Charity Event In Vienna

in art •  7 years ago  (edited)

I continue my series to introduce the best things about Vienna, mostly for my airbnb guests who appreciate my tips about the unique things you can discover in the cosmopolitan Austrian capital city.

Gustav Klimt is one of many talented and famous Austrians, everybody should know about as well as the yearly fabulous charity event called "Lifeball". The lifeball raised over 1.55 million Euros in 2017!

There is always hope, as long as the canvas is empty - Gustav Klimt

I discovered an article by Jessica Bush about Inge Prader, a photographer who brought Klimt’s paintings to life with real models at the life ball, the year 2015 was Viennese Sessionist-themed.

Why Do I mention Klimt and the stunning scenes of this event?

Viennese photographer Prader showed a new perspective on some of the most famous paintings of our time.

I hope you find this as fascinating as I did.

I experienced the last lifeball 2017 very closely through two of my friends who worked as hosts for some celebrities. It was too late to purchase tickets for myself, so I watched the exciting scenes on TV and through photos my friends sent to me.

Next time I will attend because its really one of those internationally recognised and tasteful happenings, to help raising awareness for HIV/AIDS patients worldwide.

Gustav Klimt once said about himself :

“I can paint and draw. There is no self-portrait of myself. I am not interested in my own person, more in other people, females. I paint day by day from morning to night – figurative paintings and landscapes, less often portraits. Already when I should write a simple letter I get frightened like of imminent seasickness. Those who want to know more about me shall observingly regard my paintings, and try to realize who I am and what I want.“

GUSTAV KLIMT died in Vienna of pneumonia on Feb 6th, 1918.

Gustav Klimt (1862- 1918) is the greatest and most impressive person of the Austrian art at around 1900. Coming from modest circumstances, Klimt studied at the Staatliche Kunstgewerbeschule where his talent for drawing was soon discovered. Therefore he got a number of public contracts together with his brother Ernst und his university friend Franz Matsch. The panaches at the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the great paintings at the staircase of the Burgtheater testify the technical perfection of this young „Künstler-Compagnie“. However these works were entirely committed to Viennese historicism. During the 1890s Klimt was looking for different means of expression and finally founded the Secession in 1897 with other like-minded artists. Klimt was the first president of the Vienna Secession. The culmination of this development were the University of Vienna ceiling paintings that burned in 1945 in a mansion in Lower Austria. - Source

The Leopold Museum presents these major works by Klimt for the first time as black and white photographs in the original size. The radical depiction of his personal view of the world was too pessimist for the professors at the University of Vienna and led to a huge scandal at the time. As a reaction Klimt decided never to accept any public contract again and focused on the creation of lyric landscape paintings that he painted during his summer visits together with the Flöge family to the Attersee region in Upper Austria. - Source

Nice, but I really could have done without the naked fat chick! I think Heinrich Kley may also have been from there (not sure, but I think I read that)

Heinrich is an illustrator from Germany

Thank you! He's my favorite artist... someone gave me book of his illustrations about 50 years ago and it floored me!!! In fact I did a post about him a few months back!

It feels like he is tripping on a dark side of ayahuasca. His illustrations really made me think of your "Gods" stories. I always found his work very deep and so intense.

Where is the link ?

Fantastic article Rich !

Thank you thank you, my dear!!!

What a wonderful post, all the images are so good and who created them must have been a genius of his time. This post is quite unique here.

NSFW content

You must be kidding me :) this is art, not porn !!!!
This is openminded Europe ! Let's discuss .....

Porn is also art.

All creative expression, and that which inspires the senses and endows one with passion, is art.

No problem about this at all but I really don't consider those photos as NSFW content and I refuse to tag my article about Klimt as such. We all have our priorities what we call art. Porn is not my interest for my eyes and senses but this is not the topic here.

I'm only suggesting that art is a broad subject.

Puritan culture often disallows certain types of art, such as heavy metal and porn, doesn't it? Even now, we have a person upset at this art for how profane it is.

You are absolutly right and I quite understood inbetween the lines.

One of my friends just wrote this offline and I wanted to share the thought.
I was a bit shocked to be honest.

From a puristic point of view, any uncovered parts of the body that has to do with sex may be considered as NSFW. Keep in mind that cultures determines this, and parts of the USA would like to see every body element to be covered with clothing. Also Islamic world. But for sure also Christian world.

Yeah, I'm heavily anarchistic and atheistic, so I view humans like I do animals. (Which is just fine. I like animals.)

Clothing is unnatural and strange to me. It feels like I'm wearing the corpses of plants or animal, or oil-made-into-plastic.

Sometimes it's not bad, but the fact that it's enforced by law, and that people get offended at what's natural is very bizarre to me.

That's a sweet and kind way to describe that love for humans. I usually like animals more but you got me thinking :)
How could anybody be offended by nudity. I just don't get it!

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Why?

When any nudity is NSFW, where do we drawn the line? What is NSFW and what isnt?

When we are so strong on nudity and tagging it NSFW, why are we not strong on images and video with humans killing each other, with scenes from movies? And what about strong language? And what about discrimination? and so on. We do not have a qualification system for many of the offending expressions we see in posts and comments.

Good question ....why NSFW ???

Just saying.

What is your opinion on other matters as NSFW? As well as where is for you the line between NSFW and not?

War, blood and cruelty would fit much better for this tag than nudity I think but it's good we all have different ideas what we don't want to see and hide.
I changed the front picture hoping it pleases most eyes now.

Great story, @mammasitta ! In our family we love the works of Gustav Klimt. We have two copies of the works of this author in the technique of "print on canvas". This , of course :) , Kiss" and "Adele". We Definitely want to visit the Museum in Vienna. Thank you for such a lovely story!

Thank you very much for this very informative post. I think I'm like many people... I knew the name Klint, I knew it was a very famous painter... but I would never have been able to tell more about his work.
On the other hand, I'm always fascinated by art nouveau, art deco and the jugendstil. We have a lot in Belgium and I'm always attracted to those buildings...
Thanks to you I can now connect the name with the style 😄 And thanks to all those links I do have a lot of reading 😉
