The Museum Of Bad Art, One Of The 50 Greatest Museums Of The World

in art •  8 years ago

I never thought there would be a very unusual Museum Of Bad Art , So Bad that It's Good, from Bad to even Worse.

My sweet little, very creative "Sister" Sophie Akkineni, working as an artist herself in Bali, finds the funniest images and stories on the internet. Today she posted a link I saw in my feed and it made me laugh out loud.

We both like wacky stuff !

MoBA is the acronymic name of the world's only museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, exhibition and celebration of bad art in all its forms.

The very prestigious Times of London has recognized MoBA as one of the 50 Greatest Museums in the world! Their growing collection of works of Bad Art awaits your eyes and they also offer a book.

Today, the Museum of Bad Art has its home in the Dedham Community Theatre outside of Boston. MoBA has over 250 pieces in its permanent collection though only around 25 to 30 are displayed at any one time. The museum’s curators take seriously their task of preserving the world’s most horrendous artworks and the inspirations behind them.

Enjoy some pictures and decide which one is the worse for you.

The museum’s beginnings date way back to the year 1993 when antique dealer Scott Wilson spotted an oil painting in the trash, the now iconic Lucy in the Field with Flowers

The motion, the chair, the sway of her breast, the subtle hues of the sky, the expression on her face -- every detail combines to create this transcendent and compelling portrait, every detail cries out "masterpiece."

VANISHING WOMAN by Hannah Hamilton

Wilson’s friends encouraged him to start a collection, and he began holding receptions in his home. Attendance grew and the collection found a permanent home in the basement of a community theater in Dedham, Massachusetts. When the building later found itself in the hands of a new owner who did not see MOBA as a good fit, the museum established its main gallery in the Somerville movie theater.
It also operates branch galleries in Brookline and South Weymouth, near Boston. - Source ( thecreatorsproject.vice.com)
