You and Me; my painting about being human

in art •  5 years ago  (edited)

If you grew up during the 80s or before, you are probably in the same place I am; wondering whether the whole world has gone mad or if it was us and our parents that were completely clueless anyway.

I mean I hear all about those new "labels" coming out every now and then eg. Asperger, OCD, bipolar, schizoid... All these labels that are trying to put everyone in the box they belong and on the meds they need. I can't help but wonder; in an era when everyone tries so hard to be politically correct and shout out loud that diversity is a good thing, how is it that every single difference is being treated as a disease?

If that's true then I should probably have been locked up in a nuthouse since I was 10. Luckily for me, when I grew up parents didn't look at our eccentricities as something being off but rather as this kid!

You see when I was a kid I had an imaginary friend... That itself would not be as bad, but unfortunately my imaginary friend was called bad Marianda! She was responsible for everything bad we ever did! Not me, I was good Marianda. At some point bad Marianda went too far. I had to punish her, so I made her disappear. Ever since she's been MIA. Maybe she has been working undercover who knows.

One thing is for sure... If I had been born a decade later, both Mariandas would have been neutralized through the various psycho psychiatrists. At least now they both live and operate under a silent agreement.

And that is what this painting is about; how our various sides form our personality. How we are good and bad at the same time, but in the end this is what makes us unique and interesting.

PS. No, these are not two girls kissing. Sorry!

Hahaha Hey Kevin, all good! missed you!

To me, even these two look like they are joined at the hip. Merely a difference of opinion over who will lead and who will follow (@twiceuponatime and I have these little squabbles all the time)
