Hello and good weekend People!

Today I wanted to share with you all a little still life I made a couple of months back. I haven't named this one yet, so for now lets just call it ''Still life with lemon'';

Stll life next to setup, panel measures 20 x 30 cm.

For this image I wanted to paint something light with a splash of color. Whenever I feel like adding some rich deep colors in still lifes I find that fruits and vegetables are a nice way of doing that.

So let me take you through my process;

The first thing I do is cover my canvas With a thin layer of raw umber + golden ocher. These colors mixed together makes a nice warm undertone for the different colors I know are excisting in my still life. The green glass bottle for instance, will be able to have a lot of the that first layer of paint shine through in the final image.

Then I go ahead and mix my different colors.

The colors that are on my palette are general mixes for all the areas I am about to paint. There will also be some mixing inbetween the different mixes.

I start by blocking in all the different objects in the painting. What I focus on here is drawing in, as simpelified as possible, all the right proportions in relation to each other.

The next thing I do is go in and paint the painting like a piece- meal. This meaning that I choose one object at the time that I paint to a very high finish before starting the next one.

With the background I jump a little bit more around, but I try to build it out from the center.
Some people, like myself usually, like to paint in layers. That means that you og over your whole painting with your first layer which is very general and build up towards a finished result while keeping your painting unified.
This time however I wanted to try and paint it '' piece-meal.''

One example of when it is really good to paint piece- meal is if you are painting flowers. because they change so much from hour to hour it's a good idea to finish up each flower as fast as possible.

And there you go! :)

This still life took about 6 hours from start to finish which is what I usually spend on a still life this size.
