Walks around Saint-Petersburg#3.

Passing further along Nevsky Prospekt you can see a beautiful garden in the center of which is a monument to the Great Russian Empress Catherine II. The monument was built in 1873 with the participation of several architects: Mikhail Mikeshin, Matvey Chizhov, Alexander Opekushin and David Grimm. At the base of the monument around the empress are figures of nine eminent figures of the Catherine's epoch.

The monument is located in the Catherine Garden, surrounded by Alexandrinskaya Square.
This square with several historical buildings is an architectural ensemble emerged under the project of architect Charles Ivanovich Rossi in the 19th century.
One of the buildings is the building of the Alexandrinsky Theater (the Academic Drama Theater named after AS Pushkin) built in 1828 - 1832.

Behind the theater is located one of the most beautiful streets of the city, the Rossi Street on both sides of which are built in 1828 - 1834 by the same type of buildings designed by the architect Rossi.
