━│Graphic Design Trends│━

━│2018│━

Today I decided to step aside and take a little break from my daily drawing ''routine'' and talk about my other love in the field of visual arts, graphic design. In particular, I want to talk about graphic design trends in 2018. As we know how visual trends are important for our everyday life we must embrace ourselves to the movement of visual burst that will have an enormous impact on our society this year and some of those styles has already started to leave their roots around us that will stay for a long time and shape our future.

This year we'll be witnesses of styles from a few decades ago arriving in a first row with contemporary ones but what makes this year's game more interesting are the futuristic styles that are finally catching their place in between those two. And now we will travel from the broken letters thrown all around an empty poster to the overlayed transparent images and colours trying to float in our space. Can you even imagine those combinations merged together? Well, let's go check that magic of visual collaboration that is already out there lurking for utilization!

No. 1│Glitch, the broken visualia

1.jpg

Interferences, distortion and broken looks are its main characteristic but tell me something...would you ever imagine that some unexpected result of a malfunction, something against we are fighting all those years to improve it in our modern society will become one of the main styles in today visualization of our surrounding. Sound pretty absurd to me but that's exactly why I simply can't take my eyes of this amazing phenomena!

No. 2│Cyber brightness, colors in waves of retrofuturism

2.jpg

The magical 80's and the birth of the graphic style that has travelled with us toward this day when we will once again incorporate this magnificent colours back into our lives. Back then was now! And now we are witnessing the rebirth - renovation of the wave. Neon lights, misty bright colours, fiction and imagination in one word that is taking place in its greatest appearance. Synthwave! The nostalgia mode is definitely on!

No. 3│Disjoined text, forget the rules of space

3.jpg

Playing with letters, throwing them around, reforming and finding new positions and composing an image with them is now more popular then has ever been before! It is a relatively new movement but I find this style most popular in a bunch of new websites although even flyers and movie posters are starting to take their own the initiative to come along. Would you call this kind of art a creative mess?

No. 4│Sliced text, cut the design

4.jpg

At first, you could say that this entry has similar paths with Disjoined text style but not so quite actually. Well, there are letters still but here we are talking about one simple and brilliant move in design history. A slice! A slice of a knife over text or how I like to call it ''a cut'' over the words. This is not so much of a new style, we saw it already all around the media even a few years back. I personally have seen it mostly in fashion industry and I'm watching it there again in even more of new combinations.

No. 5│Colour channels, the art of transparency

5.jpg

This style reminds me of a Cyber Brightness and The Glitch styles somehow merged together but separated in transparent layers one over the another. To put it simple as it is, this is a (digital) process of separating colours and combining them in transparent mode in layers. You can find this Colors channel style in both text and image designs.

These are my favourite graphic design style choices for 2018 that I'm looking forward to seeing implementing into our everyday life but out there in the world there are much more styles at the moment which are starting to ignite and change principles of design as we know it. Now, this list will take forever if I continue to write about all these but still I can't resist to give you a few more honourable mentions:

  1. Illustrations Over Photos
  2. Negative Space Typography
  3. Colorful 3D Substance
  4. Papercut Illustrations

A question for the conclusion

So, through my 5 main picks above you can tell that I love cyberspace, messy and glowy worlds, lines and anomalies much like simplicity and plainness. Some of those styles we still like to call abstract ones and especially when we merged them together. Now I'm asking you, how long do you think will be needed until world translate abstract to normal once again?

Until next time...
