5 Pointz - A New York Institution...

in art •  7 years ago

For the uninitiated, 5 Pointz was a safe haven for graffiti artists. People from all over the world came to Queens, NYC to paint there. Unfortunately it's not around any longer but it's legacy will live on.

As I'm typing this, it dawned on me I should write up a lengthier post. I'll work on it over the week and I'll release it next weekend as I have hundreds of images to sift through.

So for now here are 2 teaser images and stay tuned!

That's awesome dude, I had no idea they had anywhere like that!

LOL - I know it's crazy just looking at the image. You can get an idea of the sheer scale of just one side of the building by the first image. It was a huge loss to the City of New York when the owner sold the property. There was a lawsuit - but the artists lost. Now it's just a generic condo building.

The 'Mekka' of graf.
Never missed viewing it on the trains every time passing it. And the the couple of times I got to go there and on top. Greatest graf stop in the wrold.

It was always unreal to see it in person. It's one of those things we take for granted in life. Truth be told I was never crazy about the art there as most of the writers weren't from NYC and I'm a NYC graffiti snob.

But it was a cool spot nonetheless!

Funny how we were almost in synch again with posts
