The King of the Night is the leader of the white walkers. Unlike ordinary walkers, he wears black clothes, has on his head processes that resemble a crown, and knows how to turn human babies into white walkers. He can incredibly quickly revive a huge number of dead, which immediately become a replenishment of his army of whirlwinds.

Before becoming a white walker, the King of the Night was the representative of the first people captured by forest children, including Leaflet. A leaf was thrust into the man's chest with a blade of dragon glass, after which his eyes turned blue, and he turned into the first white walker. After many thousands of years, Leaflet explains to Brun Stark that forest children created white walkers to protect themselves from the first people who invaded Västerås and started the war.
