Painting Wishes

After my commission artwork for Samsung releasing their latest phone models here in Romania, I was commissioned again by Samsung! Very happie :))))

This time a similar project which is to create artwork but the different is that the artwork is to highlight a customer's experience and not the product or phone! A delightful idea :))))

Samsung decided to hold a contest! Theme was: win a illustrated poster of your story about samsung s!

I was commissioned by Samsung to deliver the winner's prize :)))) Great honor!

So, the winner story was like this: she wanted a samsung s7 so her brother took her to mall and he said to wait for him in front of a store. when he came he have 2 new samsung s7! excited, they started to unbox the phones at once!!! but the security guy escort them outside because was late and the mall was closing... Hahaha :)))

This is a cute story, so I decided to use a whimsical feel for her winning prize, here is the full process! Below!

This is the sketch or known as concept stage. Very loose ideas about composition and placements for what is going on. The idea is the security guy carries the two figures floating away but they are still dreaming happily with their new Samsung phones :))))

Basic colors. Put flat and basic ideas for each section's colors! I decided to go with bright colors for the clothes because background will be dark to emphasize dreaminess later...

Yes now you can see the contrast! This is simply created by placing dark background against colorful items :)))) A good tip!

I added shadows to security guy and put also shadows of wire fencing... I was thinking wire fencing implies being escorted out? Something like this! I put the shadow long because to create a feeling of being dragged, haha

Work is started on the brother!

Still on brother, decided that he will wear soccer shirt and also worked on his pants! More, I gave him shoes now :))))

Moved over to work on girl and girl's dress...

Summer dress! With flowers :)))) Also added a motif on brother's shirt :))))

This is coming together well now, don't you think? I placed the girl's long red hair with a floaty feel, because she's airy and this is a dreamy drawing. Stars are added for dreaming :)))) A night sky! As the mall closes! Hahaha!

Here I worked on color balance, so I picked the primary colors that I have used and check myself. You can see it helps breaking down your color choices at important step of your art. A helpful tip for fellow artists :)))) I also step back and worked on the lighting of this picture now. You can see part of girl's arm is now shaded to imply light directions that create that splash of wirefence brightness on the ground!

Work was also done on girl's dress to match the lightning and shadows of the picture :))))

And now mister security guard gets some attention from me! I moved placement of my color spots to make sure I keep color balance :)))) The brother and sister are connected to mister guard by brother's shoe-string! Small connection but they are dragged away by this!!!! Hahaha :))))

This is the final picture! I added lighting from the phones which are transfixing the brother and sister and I added security logo on mister guard's arm. Definition is checked and enhanced where they need work, and so the picture is completed!

The brother and sister are saying - "Let us be! We only want to lose ourselves in our new phones!"

Security guy is all - "Mall is closing! Get out!"

Ha ha ha! What a cute story! :))))

It was a happy commission work with Samsung :)))) I hope to work again with this company as they are great client!
