Creating A Winged Shield Coat of Arms in Affinity Designer

This winged shield coat of arms is used by a friend of mine as his online avatar and in game coat of arms. The design is a based on an old design which needed to be redrawn to improve resolution and definition.

The remastered version was accepted as a valid coat of arms by Shroud of the Avatar, and is now used within the game on shields, banners, and armor.

First the wing silhouette was drawn by tracing the outline of the original design with the pen tool.

Feathered plumage was added to the wing, which was then duplicated and mirrored.

A shield was added to the center of the design, composed of several layers, and 3d bevel effects were used to give the impression of depth.

Finally a red rose was added to the center of the shield.
