@noboxes Customizes an IKEA Nightstand

in art •  7 years ago

Good Sunday to all of you Steemians out there!

*The pic above is a before and after of the night stand.

So, how many of you have bought any furniture from IKEA?

The pic below is of the nigh stand unfinished, just raw pine

Here's the night stand, straight from IKEA in the box:

I have to admit, this is the first piece I ever bought, but it's not the first time I've ever finished, refinished or customized a piece of furniture.

@rigaronib and I have produced some great pieces and as of today, we left them all in Chile. Though, I feel we might be doing some projects together in the future,... I sincerely hope

The pics above and below is the finished product. It's stained with our magic stain recipe ( I'll share it with you in a later post, I promise ).

I only put just enough polyurethane on it to seal it. I must admit that I love my future glossy, but the current fad is for everything to be matte or even less and have the appearance of reclaimed wood, so there it is.

My daughter, @fullofhope really liked how this turned out and has claimed it as her own, which makes me thrilled.

I have two more of these that I want to finish, any ideas?

I'm enjoying this ride with you!

Here's to a great week to you all!!

Dude you customized something from Ikea? Are you some kind of sorcerer? I can barely make what is intended out of all of those pieces and screws. I will call you the fluuugerhogenshram master! (I hope that isn't a real word that means something bad).

If "fluuugerhogenshram master" is a bad word, then will have to enter it into the urban legend dictionary with a 'cool' correction, because I think it sounds awesome. I will say that there were plenty of extra pieces when I was done, I am not sure what that was all about. Whenever that happens, I can't let my wife see the extra pieces / screws / bots, it never turns out well. I have a special place in the junk drawer for all of that - LOL

Thanks for sharing... Love it.

Thanks so much for commenting @ca-life

Very nicely done!

Have you seen color washed furniture? It's pretty much just paint and water. The more coats you put on the darker, but if you do it light you can still see the wood grain. I did it in green with a picture frame I made @alovelymess and she loved it. Just an idea for future ones! Nice job again.

Very cool idea. Do you think @alovelymess would like that look on some night stands?

She says yes, perhaps not in green though. Lol.

do you have a pic?

That is very cool!

That ended up looking really nice! I love Ikea. Sad there isn't one near me in Panama!

Great work there. I've customized my share of ikea furniture - adding metal legs to the (4x1 cubby) kalax shelving units, sewing some cushions for the tops, and using them as bench seating in the kitchen is once that comes to mind. I've seen 'skins' that people sell on etsy or other sites, that are basically images that fit onto the drawers of Ikea dresser units so that each drawer contains a portion of the photo and standing back from the unit, you can see the 'big picture'. Can't wait for your stain recipe!

That's an awesome furniture you've got there @noboxes!
