First Doodle Using My Drawing Tablet!

in art •  7 years ago

I spent a couple days working on my laptop, cleaning it up, getting programs on it, making it run really well, in hopes that I could livestream my first use of the drawing tablet I just got.

Well, after days of working on my laptop, and having not used my tablet at all, I decided that enough was enough. After quite a few failed attempts at getting my screen to livestream at any decent resolution, I said "fuck it" and started using the tablet anyways. I had already missed out on days of getting familiar with it and hopefully being able to use it for Freebie Friday today.

Please keep in mind that I have never used a drawing tablet before. This is very new to me. Previously, I was using my smartphone, and I was drawing directly on the image the entire time. Whereas with this drawing tablet, I'm drawing on a surface but looking up at the screen. It requires far more hand-eye-coordination, which is something that takes getting used to.

It feels like learning how to walk again.

So it'll take a while for me to improve. But! I'm trying anyways!

It also sucks that the PC version of the art program I was using on my phone costs $80. I downloaded a demo version of it, and out of the art programs I've been playing around with yesterday and today, the demo version was by far the easiest to use and with the best results. (Demo version can't save or export images to it, and I didn't feel like taking a screenshot at that exact moment.)

So one of my priorities is definitely gonna have to be buying ArtRage5 once I'm able to.

Right now I'm using OpenCanvas, and I really don't like the overall UI of the thing, but it's not horrible for just practicing the coordination thing.

I did try GIMP, but apparently GIMP and I still don't get along, even though it's been many years since our first misadventures with each other.

I've tried a few other programs as well, with mixed results. So for right now, I'm using OpenCanvas to hone my coordination.

And now, for the thing you all really came here to see! My first, terrible doodle.
