Using interesting materials usually means interesting results. I think this is especially true when you select a material that wouldn't necessarily be associated with that field of design. Here Korean creative Wonmin Park has designed a collection of resin furniture that is both innovative and eye catching.
Graduating from the Design Academy in Eindhoven, Wonmin Park set up his own studio in Eindhoven where he has been for 9 years, recently establishing a production facility in Rotterdam and a new studio in Paris. This isn't the first time I've seen resin used to create surfaces for furniture, but it's the first time I've seen it achieved in such a manner as this. The lightness and purity of the material is really quite something, similar to glass but at the same time totally different. I think the pastel colours working in combination with the translucency make the furniture take on new meaning.
These colours are created by adding pigments to the mould that the resin sits inside. Wonmin has used the slab like properties of the formed resin to construct sculptural type seating and table solutions that are practical but also works of art. It's an interesting combination.
