The birds in this painting choose to flock together, but they are also free to fly. I'm watching the birds from my window as I write this, wouldn't it be wonderful to fly like a bird? Maybe that is what I am trying to achieve as an artist, to rise and soar above, to gain a different viewpoint. What about you?
The words on the painting are taken from the book The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran.
He was a Lebanese-born author, artist, poet and philosopher. It's a beautiful piece of writing and holds a lot of warmth and happiness for me.
I used acrylic paint, book pages, inks and image maker (for text transfer) to create this work on canvas.

I think both would have appealed to him, but the wording reminds me of a conversation we had not long before the wedding about what relationships meant to us that i had forgotten about until i saw this. Abstract is good. Focus on an area that interests you; colour, shape, light. Don't worry about trying to 'reproduce' something- that is what cameras are for!

The artwork is beautiful.
I have to admit, it took me a couple of reads to understand the poem as I had a hard time grasping "give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf." because when I think of the relationship between my husband and me, I liken it to two peas in a pod - and we share everything.
But I think I get what the message is trying to convey - to be one's self. to be true. and be giving without too much and losing one's self in the process.
