A spot of drawing

It was a rainy afternoon today, so I spent my time sat indoors doing a spot of drawing. I thought I would start the first stages of a portrait I am working on influenced by the recent announcement of the HardFork mini series. This is the pencil stage of the portrait, eventually it will be developed into a digital image.

Laying down the initial lines and developing the shape of the face.

Amazing portrait Ophelia, I love it. We need to talk! I'd love to get my hands on a copy of this.

I should be seeing Doug next month in Lisbon- I can pass in on to him.
Does it look like you? I don't normally draw people I've never met, but I made an exception for the Hardfork series project and used a photograph to draw from.

Nice portrait, keep up good work!

Great work! Much different than the flowers!

Yes very different. I've been doing a flower painting too today , but I need to finish that off.

Nice I enjoyed the change up and seeing what you can do with a graphite pencil.

Thank you- nice to have a little change :)

Great job! I'm horrible at drawing life like. You're awesome!

That's kind, thank you.

Great post and amazing drawing 😊

Thank you very much!

My pleasure 😊 it really was amazing.
Have a great Sunday

Excellent post dear friend @opheliafu, in images of faces you can appreciate the profecionalismo of the artist, I am not an expert of the subject, but I have observed that always the artists have difficulty to grasp the essence of the face.
However here you can appreciate the realistic features and looks of the work.
Congratulations on the level of profecionalismo that you possess.
Have a great start to the weekend

Thank you for these kind words @jlufer. This drawing is preparation for another piece I'm working on, so hopefully you will be able to see in a few days the next stage of my creative process.

Wow, this is incredible! May I ask how long it took to draw?

Not sure exactly as I was working on it in between layers of another painting drying, I would say between 2-3 hours.

Reeestemeeeeeeddd......!!!!! AMAZING <3

Awesome- thank you very much!

Art is beautiful. I have seen shades of different drawings on your blog and they have all been wonderful.

Thank you @turpsy, I like to mix things up and surprise with something new!

I wish I could learn such amazing drawing too :)

Never too late to make a start

My dear Ofelia it's fantastic! I think I remember you also creating digital portraits, about 6 months ago (correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember like I stared following you when I saw a drawing you made for you classes...). I'm sorry in advance if I messed everything up in m head.
Tiny question about the portrait. May be a little tip about the skin texture, how do you create it?

I can't remember- most likely I did some digital portraits! I may have taken one of my drawings and worked on it digitally- that's more my style -though I do have a graphics tablet and pen, but I prefer to draw freehand with a pen or pencil (old school-lol).
Skin texture? Not sure which bit oft his drawing you mean as there are smooth sections and more textured sections, but i alternate the way I hold the pencil. I may use the side of the pencil or graphite stick to apply block shade and then draw into it with an eraser. I also apply different pressure to my strokes and mark making to create stubble and fine lines on the skin. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your time and reply, I'll try to use what you described. Creating textures with pencil is really tricky for me:)

This is very good @opheliafu, I love doing pencil drawings, it's fun to see what potential paintings could look like. Great stuff :)

I rarely do a full on pencil drawing these days- i usually work in inks, but I fancied a change today.

It's really a great portrait, @opheliafu ! Really well done!

Thank you @silviabeneforti

it is a rare talent to be able to write poetry and draw and paint. You create a most beautiful multi-media effect

That is very kind of you to say so @johnjgeddes. I just enjoy sharing the creative process :D

With every line, your subject comes to life.... If this isn't magic, then no way is it art!
How wonderful is this!

Not magic... just graphite!

There's a little and a lot of magic in your hands!
It's such a gift! I have a set of graphite pencils I was gifted not too long ago, maybe I'll take them out to play :)

Wow that's great
I love this painting , art is always make us happy

Wow, you're so talented! Keep up the good work :-)

Keep it up, you're doing good!
