Red Dust Sun

Kicking up dust

As I stepped out of the house this morning I looked up at the sky, the sun was a glowing ball of coral red. It was if I was looking at the sun of a different solar system, stood on the surface of a planet far away but the neat rows of houses and telephone wires reminded me I was still on earth.

As we drove to the shops I kept an eye on the sky, the sun was now shining through a haze, a dispersed glow of pinks and oranges against a grey sky. As thicker cloud started to move across the path of the sun it made me think of a blood moon, the kind you might find in a werewolf film, 'Awwoooooooh!' The radio was on and they were discussing the imminent arrival of ex-Hurricane Ophelia on the coast of Ireland. Saharan dust particles were being drawn northwards by the ex-Hurricane, causing the red sun we could see in the sky above us.

When we came out from the shops the light appeared to be different, as if everything was bathed in a soft orange light. I turned on the car headlights and we made our way home.

Just before midday I was out in the garden, I tied down anything that might turn into a flying missile and put the patio furniture away. By this time ex-Hurricane Ophelia had reached Ireland, we weren't expecting the winds to be anywhere near as strong here in this part of England, but it was better to be safe than sorry. The wind had picked up and autumn leaves were speeding past my face, it felt unusually warm too. A family of sparrows shot past me and into the safety of a hawthorn hedge, I took that as a sign it was time to get indoors.

Inside the house I set up my paints and then turned on the lights in order to see what I was doing. I looked through the window to where the sun had been but all I could see were clouds forming a flawless yellow grey blanket across the sky.

This is awesome! I'm live in the pacific northwest and there was a large amount of smoke in my town from fires in California and I took this picture of another red sun through the smoke. I'd love to see your artistic interpretation of it!

So clean and you captured the warmth beautifullly, as always! Hope you are doing well!⭐️

Thank you @artedellavita, it was a bit of a strange sky, and yes unusually warm.

I've seen the blood moon before, and I think your recording is very nice.

it's YOU heading OUR way! shining bright! it's PRIME TIME baby! :)

I'm not that destructive! I like calm around me and the odd sprinkle of Saharan dust!

fair. ok fair.

@opheliafu, I'm not good at drawing, but I like painting.

I thoroughly enjoyed this short story-like post. You're writing style is amazing. I wanted this post to go on and on and never end. You rocked dear @opheliafu.

Steem On!

Well i needed to finish at some point to get on with some painting!

How extraordinary that Saharan dust could reach Ireland and still be so dense! Nature is truly amazing. Nice painting too, I like the simplicity and lines!

I'm in England so we had high winds but nothing on the scale of Ireland. We have had Saharan dust blown this far before in the UK.

very nice composition!

I'm very sorry for the weather situation.
beautiful work dear friend @opheliafu, I love how I achieved this excellent representation
I wish you a beautiful week

wow, very nice graphic - and I would not know what it was unless you told me. What's it like having a hurricane named after you?

Not really sure! You can see the names here http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames.shtml

oh I thought it was named "Ophelia" and that is your name on Steemit, at least...

I must admit that when I heard the news about the hurricane I was thinking about you.. London..
Don't take it personal, you are the only Ophelia I know!
Best wishes!:)
I hope you're doing fine!

Apparently, the fires in Portugal and the sandstorm refracted the greens and blues from the light, giving only reds, yellows and oranges to see.

I'm not sure how accurate the report is, but it made sense as the day looked decidedly sepia tinted.

You've made the best of it though. Lovely artwork <3

That's very technical!
