Focalism

When we see we focus on the object of our attention. I've been developing a painting style which attempts to reproduce how our brains use peripheral information and focused attention. This image of The (not quite) Naked Cowboy in Times Square is part of a series of street scenes which explore the idea of focalism. Another selection for sgoa perhaps ?

Very interesting concept @outerground! I like your stylistic approach and the concept behind it. I think, if I understand it correctly, which I believe I do, that you have nailed it! This is really cool - upvoted and resteemed. Looking forward to following your work! :)

Hey @j-vo that's a brilliant comment and I'm pleased you like it.. I will be posting more of these over the coming weeks so check in to see more focalism street scenes.. what do you think focalism or peripheralism ? which makes more sense !!

I think my brain likes peripheralism just because i already have an understanding of what peripheral vision is. It also makes a better connection in understanding that when you look at your rectangles on the side directly, they look like just rectangles, but when you focus on the obvious focal point, those squares start to take shape and we see the people now.. it's just really cool! I hope my explanation made sense! :)

@j-vo that's EXACTLY what I was hoping to elicit in a response from you.. yes when you focus on the object of interest your brain begins to decode the blocks and they begin to resemble familiar elements of a landscape, because that indeed is how peripheral vision works and also how your brain encodes / decodes the landscape of surroundings.

Hooray!!! I'm glad that I am on the right page here! I just love what you are doing!! I'm so excited to see your series!

that's excellent @j-vo it's why we create, to share ideas and to recognise what's in each other's heads. Our language limits our ability to get our point across and in a world with so many languages unknown by most, art, music, dance...these are the universal languages of expression !

PREACH! lol :D So true.. its these universal things that tie us all together and truly unite us all!!

following.. @j-vo I had a look at your work. nice portfolio :) art = meaning = life
