This is the second mash-up/ collaboration painting of Elfrid Payton (PG for the Orlando Magic) and Jean-Michael Basquait. I modeled this painting after the Iconic photography of Basquait taken by Andy Warhol.
Here is the original photo that inspired the painting. I believe the photography was taken in 1982, and for some of Warhol's Iconic screen prints.
This is a picture of Elfrid Payton, Ironically they both kinda rock a loose similar hairstyle. When my hometown Orlando Magic had drafted Payton, I always thought he looked familiar, and finally one day it clicked and I realized he resembled one of my greatest artistic inspirations
Here is a picture of the first painting i did and Sold.
In this painting you have Elfrid's uniform with a abstract face and Basquait's hair.
Here are some more process shots of making the second Elfrid Basquait painting. Starting off with the sketch of the suit and tie.
Starting off with the sketch of the suit and tie.
I originally was using a smaller sized canvas, but fitting the fat head on to the suit, I had to switch to a larger canvas 30x40.
I used an old fat head of Elfrid, that is why his face is so realistic, and i used the paint to plend it together. I still really like the effect the glued on head gives the painting. It has a almost realistic 3D look to the painting.
Here is one last close, here you can see some of the detail and the raised face from the fat head.
