This is car drawn in vector graphics. I am the author, and this is a brief tutorial how you can create yours.

Why create a car in vector graphics? Well, it is not my idea, it was a homework for one subject at college, but I like the result, so I want to share it with you.

Its creation took about ten hours because I started over and over again until I find the best strategy to redraw car from picture to vector graphics because until then I never worked with it. And... I wanted to make it perfect. Did I succeed?

How to draw a car in vector graphics

Step 1: Download or take a picture of your favourite car

At first, you must get a photo of a car, which will serve as a template. After you get it, you can open it in your favorite vector graphics editor. I used Inkscape, which is available for free.

This was my template:

Step 2: Copy shape of the car

When you have the image opened in the editor, you can now copy the shape and all lines of the car, which you can see on the picture. I do it using Bezier curves. After finishing this process, you can delete the picture from the background, and the result will be like this:

Step 3: Coloring the car

Now you can start coloring the car. In other window open the original picture of the car to see its color, lights, and shades.

At first, I colored it with colors without shading to suggest which color belongs to individual segments of the car.

Then I start playing with light and shade. I must add a lot of new layers defining light behavior. You can do that using linear transitions, blur and setting transparencies of layers.

I won't tell you the exact procedure because I don't remember that and because every editor can have different. So as I said before it is a play and you will play it until you are satisfied with the result.

Thanks for reading. Hope you'll like it and don't hesitate to show your beautiful cars made in vector graphics :)
