Digital Art: Fan art for Munimuni, a local indie folk band

I made a fan art for the indie local band here in the Philippines, Munimuni or Daydream in english. I discovered the band last two months while surfing on youtube. The feels, the emotions, and the vision of their music really got my attention. I immediately checked them out and I messaged them on their facebook page to say hi. I'm already addicted with their music. It gives me more creative ideas when I'm looking for some ideas on my stories that I'm currently working on. Let me introduce to you guys, Munimuni.

The name Munimuni itself came up after a random jeepney ride where TJ realized that the word “muni-muni,” which means “reflecting,” “daydreaming,” or “meditating” in English, captured the very essence of their music. Munimuni has been making headway in the local indie music scene over the past year. The band—comprised of Aj Jiao on guitar and vocals, Owen Castro on flute and vocals, TJ De Ocampo on guitar, and Red Calayan on percussion—performs songs that feature ethereal, folksy soundscapes with the relatability and innovativeness of their OPM forefathers.

I completely adore the band. On their interviews they always use the word makata-pop genre or Poetic pop in English and I fully agree! They're reviving the poetic side of every filipino. Nowadays, people are now tuned on newer genres such as hiphop, dubstep, edm, and etc. I don't hate those type of songs and actually I like some of it. But the fact that it has a small bit of your being a filipino, it really touches my heart. This is my most favorite song on their EP, Sa Hindi Pag-alala.

This one is my all time favorite, Sa Hindi Pag-alala. For me the song is all about saying your hardest goodbye. Actually, this is the song I gained inspiration for my film Kontra that's all about a guy with an extraordinary power but in the end he became the villain of his origin. It hits me on the heart. The song gives you the idea on what are the usual scenarios on a heartbreak. My second favorite is Sayo.

The feeling that you want to let go somebody but you can't because of love? Haha Well, that's the emotions that I get everytime I listen to this song. Sayo means For You. So, the song it's like serenading with a beautiful poetry. Another reason why I really love them because of their poetic side. It's completely local and homemade. I really love supporting local independent artist here in my country. It's just like going back on the 90s. (i wish i go back haha)

Conclusion

This is not a paid exposure for the band or something. I want to share their music to this beautiful community and to my fellow Filipinos. Also, a reminder to support our own local goodies. This guys really need exposure on the music industry. This is just an opinion. I noticed nowadays that teenagers are now exposed on explicit or some adult music. I know. I know that's normal because they are still growing. But is it that really a preferred role model for the kids? Songs about butts, making women as objects, worshiping fame, and swearing to a random person.

maxresdefault.jpg

My point is that teenagers should not adapt on songs that are explicit. I know some of them are just expressing on their own way but some of their fans approach it on a wrong way. This is just my opinion. Instead, I want to share this band as one of my inspiration and examples of a great music that can touch everyones heart.

Thank you for reading my review/fan art/love of music and art. Actually, I'm thinking of making a fan art of my favorite bands and share some of my views on their music. All I stated above are all opinion and I don't completely hate other genres. It's just that we do have our own tastes in music and that's it. Please spread the love everyone and if you have some time please check out this band. I love you all and have a nice day :)

Greetings, qyugmo

Glad you made this picture of this band. I found it very cool when someone possesses their ability to express the feelings they have for some band through art. I do not have that gift. I admire anyone who has it.
I heard the music that you like the most and this part in particular, caught my attention:
The shape of your eyes as you laugh
The way you dress
And how do you take a short nap?
Here it goes
Here it goes
Is it really goodbye?
If we do not see each other again
Make it so that
The hands of God pulls us
For one encounter
For one look

That reminds me of that 90s song:
The lady in red is dancing with me, cheek to cheek
There's nobody here, it's just you and me
It's where I want to be
But I hardly know this beauty by my side
I'll never forget the way you look tonight

I really liked her !!!

Thank you very much for the exhibition. Good evening!

Also, greetings to you! :) THank you for reading my friend! :)

Hi @qyugmo. Your art is really cool! Thanks for introducing me to some new music. I think it’s great learning about other cultures and music. I also agree, sometimes it is just nice to listen to music without the explicit language.

Thank you for that @beeyou! I do appreciate it. I hope your having a nice day :)

Someone whispered in my ear that you did a great job promoting this post. Well done!

Hi @danielsaori, Qyugmo did a good job writing about his interest, and @davemccoy is the one with a keen eye for talent. My part in it all was to say a few words. Happy they listened. 🙂

so let's send a well done to @davemccoy as well for his talented eye. ;)

I think Curie is really important for this platform. For new great content creators, it can give an amazing confidence boost, it can easily be the difference between failure and the push needed to keep working hard.

I wholeheartedly agree @danielsaori. Curie gave their upvotes to close to 12+ so individuals we’ve come across with our community, many of them receiving their support more than once. Their support is for all users that have a passion for writing or arts. Too bad I don’t have any of those skill set! Hehe, plus our team acct is excluded but doesn’t mean I don’t support what they do. That is why they have my witness vote, what little SP it may be.

I hope we can grow the @newbieresteemday account to be able to do the same one day.

Hey @qyugmo... its nice to see such amazing work again by you... I really like it! I am sending it to a few people and hopefully you get this discovered! Great job my friend!

Thank you @davemccoy! I really appreciate it man, everything that you do especially to the community. I hope your having a good day my friend. :)

I'm happy that you got some attention, you do some great work Q... I hope you are having a great day too and I'm thrilled to see you included by @danielsaori! :)

sorry, wrong account... @friendsofgondor is me too :P

Lol! haha. 2 accounts?

actually 5... sometimes my mind hurts switching back and forth! ;)

Lol! hahaha. So means, you are RICH? Hahaha.

Do you have a bot?

I think more like stupid... lol

I don't have a bot, but I am working on a membership service... right now it is in the testing phase but hopefully in the future it can be live!

What about membership service?
#newbieresteemday?

I am proud member of #newbieresteemday :D Hahaha

It was an amazing post be @qyugmo and again amazing work by you to extend your helping hand.

I'm glad you selected this post @danielsaori! Q is a good guy and did a great job on this one for sure :)

sorry, wrong account... @friendsofgondor is me too :P

The word munimini whatever it means!! Ohh!! Meditation, means in Indian language the, "cute girl child". Best Hindi songs are written incorporating this word.
We take music a way of communicating to God. Everything flows with music and even borders can't stop it. Music stops the noisy world and rejuvenate the body energy. The art of music provides the way of life. Music is in discriminatory, universal and shades every thing under its agies. Thee notes of music make the brain to communiwith heart, makes the feelings with holestic command.
Everyone must supplicate oneself to a band of classical music once in life time and feel the power of notes and magnitizing words.
Love the music and revere the musicians, it is the only art that communicates with every human sole in world.

More than help to talent you are showing to the world, musical bands maybe not commercial but end of excellent quality.. It´s an excellent way to do tribute from an artist to another! thanks a lot

Wow I love the way you brought us this band it show case their talents and abilities. I really like their sound even though Im South African. We should all promote our local music as it is part of who we are. Great art work. You guys will make a great combo.

Yes, please do! Support our local artists! :)

nice work q!

Hahaha! You always surprise me my friend @davemccoy. Again, thanks a lot :)

Hi @qyugmo, I'm just blown away with your incredible fan art.
I don't speak philippine but the music sounds really well, i see why you like them some much at least in that aspect.
the way you talk about them also shows how you feel about their music.
pretty good job.

Thank you @gacorniel :)

Bai, nice work bai, never tried vector art on AI basin mag try ko. Congrats ! :D

Hi @qyugmo leerteerte gave me a well-defined concept of what it means to be a fan, I like the way you describe the love of music and especially this new band that completely captured your tastes.
I don't know the band but reading your emotion you could have aroused in me a great curiosity to listen to their lyrics, apart from the fact that I agree with you that the current lyrics don't have the same meaning as before and the children and young people waste their time listening to a lot of nonsense.
I also got to see your art for them and it's great, I love the freshness that you put to those guys and their original touch, which will certainly attract more followers, I congratulate you are doing a great job.

Thank you @melvadg I appreciate it :)

Omg I love them too! 😍 I like listening to OPM. Great tribute from an artist to another! :)

Good to hear that from you @chinitacharmer! Lets raise our flag! :)

I can relate very well with many of what you've said up there, I commend you for the bold step in making sure Philippines local music 🎶 did not go into extinction while you are yet alive, you'll be amazed at the indirect effect this single act is going to do to others too.
In Nigeria, the local music 🎶 that offers words of wisdom, sages and deep thought have died away and all we see now are artists with half naked ladies , they even sing proudly by singing the praises of yahoo yahoo boys(Internet fraudster/scammers).
Having hundrends of you in my country will go a long way.

Shalom.

Thank you also for sharing some history on your country. I appreciate it man :)

I love the name muni-muni. We have a SanFrancisco muni rail way and also a muni elecyric railbus. So we have a muni-muni here in California. We have a large Fillipino community here also, so maybe you Muni-muni can tour here. I wish I could go back too the 90's too @quygmo.
Those were the daaays!!
Thanks for sharing this. Very nice to hear about the underdogs success. :)
Joy

Awwe. I do appreciate it @sweetjoy. I hope our fellow filipinos are all well! Please do well our mighty OFWs :)

Support our own music! Awesome post @qyugmo, their song is full of emotions. On the other hand, you're art is cool.

Excellent information you give about the local artists.thanks fot sharing.

Thanks also man!

Nowadays, people are now tuned on newer genres such as hiphop, dubstep, edm, and etc.

I particularly like those genres because the beat is great. For me, I gotta love the vocals, the lyrics, or the beat. I didn't love the beat for the first song and I didn't understand the lyrics. It was hard to connect with the music.

I really connected with the second song. For similar reasons to what you stated, but also the melody was lovely. Awesome review thanks for sharing with us

Yes! Thanks @kubbyelizabeth. I also love those lofi type of music. I'm just not a fan of explicit content kind of songs.

That really is the beauty of music. We have the "top 40" blasted at us on the radio regularly, but we can find the songs that we connect with anywhere and once that connection is discovered, the floodgates are open. Songs hit you on an emotional level, and the range of those emotions is infinite.

I agree on that! I really like those type of music that can slap you on the face, emotionally. Haha :)

Sometimes they can be great, but other times that emotional rush triggered by a memory can be very inconvenient

Wow , This is so cool , I wish I could make such a beautiful version of my favorite Kpop bands , but I'm totally gonna check them out !!! Munimuni it is 🤗🤗🤗

Please do @ashley4u! :)

Hi @qyugmo, your art are wonderful and enlighting. I would love to learn graphic art . i only work with painting and drawing with brush and pen and not with system.

Please do @maxijgcomm! It would be awesome if you do digital art also while you do traditional art. Thanks for reading btw :)

Nice Fan art. I would love to do this also on our family photo. I want to learn this. @qyugmo thanks for inspiring mo to learn. And for promoting our local band to this platform, newbie here thanks for the idea also. More power pinoys.. ✌

I'm flattered @john02el and also thanks! You can check it out my previous posts about making vector graphics. I know you can mate :)

I find your bit about Filipinos being poetic traditionally quite interesting. Sadly, worries concerning the contents of music as it affects growing kids is more of a global thing. It will do us much good if we supported more bands like "the daydreamers."

Yes, that's correct. But I still have faith on our young generation :)

Hi @qyugmo, this is so nice and you are doing a great job in promoting your country's music and the music band.

It's important to preserve and encourage the local music in these days of people attracting to more of western music.

You art is cool as well and you deserve a big round of applause for the same.

Thanks for sharing this and a good day to you.

Thank you @coolguy123 I appreciate man. Likewise :)

Nice art..

Thanks @amelin :)

Looking at the fan art alone there's lacking in determining that they are Filipinos other than the name Munimuni. It is simple but makes you curious what is Munimuni. Is there a particulàr reason for the inverted letter N? I like how you drew them as outlines because like munimuni or daydream you are detached from reality which makes them barely complete.

Listening to their songs gave me an Orange and Lemons vibe but less poppish. Songs make you feel it given the right tune, melody or lyrics at the right time or emotion or mood. Some songs get to you at the first few seconds and others longer than that. There songs while poetic is a bit slow for my taste. It would take me a few more listens before I could appreciate them more.

Thanks you for reading @leeart! I do really appreciate. Actually, I'm just trying out new fonts that's why it's inverted. Haha :)

:D I see. So that inverted N comes with the font style? It does add another point of interest.

Wow. The artwork is beautiful. I guess you used photoshop right?

I know how it feels to find artists whose music among many, inspires you. Its not very easy.
I also, draw inspiration for some of my writings from Bob Marley and M.I, a Nigerian rapper.

Concerning your statement:

I really love supporting local independent artist here in my country.

I commend you, it's a good thing to do; and guess what, you've succeeded in making many erstwhile ignorant folks like me, to be aware of Munimuni.

PS: Can I get a link to your movie, kontra?

Thanks @me2salah I do appreciate it alot. Sure, just stay tune. I will be sharing that piece soon :)

Nice illustration of the process 👍🏻
Vibrant colors

Thank you so much @joyrobinson! I'm glad you liked it :)

Give my comment by parts @qyugmo:

First of all the illustration work is simply incredible, it hurts that this is not my strong point and it is more oriented towards the production of sounds

I really did not know her work but I really enjoyed the song Bakunawa, a letter full of useful optimism so that people can relate easily to her.

Greetings from Venezuela

Thanks @hasbydiazI do appreciate it alot :)

I agree with you when you said teenagers nowadays are exposed to explicit songs. As a parent's point of view I dont want my children listening to those songs with explicit lyrics. It may sound conservative and I am conservative. If I may choose, I will expose my children to wholesome music and art. Thank you for pointing it out. I love music and Art. Even Though I don't know much about digital art, I can see You did a great job! This is one great promotion for the group and for the kind of music they play. I also respect others opinion on this matter. After all we live in a free country.

You are one great artist! Keep up the good work! And keep the great art work coming! 👍👍

Thanks @me2salah I do appreciate it alot :)

congrats murag pirmi naka gaka curie a hehe keep up the good works!

Thank you Sir @long888! I appreciate it :)

I love your message! Congratulations.

Thanks alot @alexasteemit

First of all, I noticed you are paying attention to every detailed that you can see and I like that. I am also a Filipino, This is my FIRST TIME to hear their music and genre. They are really so GREATand I think I am so emotioned right now because of their songs!

Let's talk about A poetry-pop or Makata-pop. Grabe sila! or They're AWESOME! (in English) And because this is my first time to hear them and Give them 5 Star! Thank you for exposing them to other social media. I guess you are the number one fan of them.

Second, you are a good blogger. You just don't stay on a specific topic. You also put a trivia and Story about that specific topic. You manage your words well and I can see that you gave your best to do this Blog. :) I'm proud of you kuya! or (brother in English)

I have a suggestion: Make your Title more attractive :)
I don't say it's not attractive. It's still a catchy for a filipino like me. Because there's a Munimuni word haha.

Congrats brother! God bless you! Shalom! @qyugmo

Awwe I'm so flattered. Thanks a lot @josephlacsamana! I do appreciate your review. I'll take note of your suggestion :)

Thank you so much! I Followed you, you can PM me on discord joseph.lacsamana and send me your link that you want to have a review from me. Thanks :)

Anyway, I upvoted and resteemed your Blog, cause I am proud member of #newbieresteemday

I totally agree with you on your choice of music.
Just like you wish you could go back to the 90's, I also wish same too.

Then, we had beautiful songs with lyrics that actually do pass a meaning.

But now, the reverse is the case, all thanks to civilization.

For someone who really loves and understands music, 🎶 the songs speaks volumes and even though I do not understand exactly what they're saying, I already got inspired.

It is songs like these that inspire people to do great art like yours.

I do not doubt your creativity as I can clearly see you got inspired by the music 🎶.

Glad to let you know that it also sparked the writer in me and I'm so thankful to you for that.

Your work of art is extremely commendable that I wish I could steal it.... Lol
.....Just kidding though.
Keep up the good work.

Hi @qyugmo, Art is the strain of the soul who wants to describe the expression of an upheaval from within a person. what else art music we run. music can describe what we want to convey to other people or our fans who like the flow of music that we choose. what's more now the music industry is rapidly growing. young people can now express a positive purpose through art work, especially through bands or groups of street singers. so that young people are not affected will be more promiscuity of what is falling on the use of that is Drugs. Music is the best way to express one's self. I really like all genres of the Malay genre (DANGDUT Is the Music of my country), melly pop songs, Indie Pop or the like.

Your overview about the band is relatable. (Are there songs in English? If yes, can I get a link to their songs?) There are so many up-to-date bands whose voices haven't been heard at all, all over the world.

Permit me to take you round Nigeria as a Nigerian. I was born in the 90's and I heard beautiful songs everywhere from Edris Abdulkareem to 2face to Fela Anikulapo Kuti to African Nubia.

These men sang the heart of men. If you are low in confidence, listening to these guy's song would surely revive you. As a guy or man then, talking to ladies was not an issue, all you have yourself do is play African queen by 2face Idibia or play one of African Nubia's collection.

As time rolled by, these men were cautioned for speaking against the corrupt democracy practised and they slowly had their mouths shut. Some of them grew old and some still sang on but never gained popularity again. WHY?

The advent of the new century of songs had come and everyone wanted to just damce and patty hard(this is one of the reason kids and wards are wayward). These kids sneak out to party and simultaneously get roused by defaming music.

Conclusion: Every brand or crew that sings wonderfully well should be appreciated. They hold good sanity of the world. They speak from their hearts and bless lives.

Great one muni-muni

I always been impressed by people like your that find something new and immediately decide to dedicate their time to create something honoring that thing!

Your fanart of the band is amazing and watching at least a bit of how it was created is pretty cool.

In regards to music taste, everyone has different tastes but in my opinion genres like dubstep and electronic, that are somewhat enjoyable, don't compare to real music with good lyrics and meanings and real feelings behind every word and note!

I'll be looking forward for more of your fan art :-D

As a music lover i can totally relate the feeling of been able to connect with an artist through his music. Music speaks alot for me. Theres something about the way the minds of artists work that amazes me everytime i listen to a song.

Now as a graphics designer, i totally love the creativity. And your attention to a detail as tiny as the lighting (shadows and highlights) is quite impressive. Its a beautiful design. And thank you for taking me through the process ive certainly picked up a thing or 2

This is why I love music. I didn't understand a single word but I couldn't help but vibe to those tracks, specially the first one(the melody is now stuck in my head lol). This is why I love to indulge and experiment with different genres.
But as a hip hop fan and hip hop being my first love I have to say that most of what is heard on the radio or in clubs is just spoof meant to dumb us down.

If you were to ask me who's "hot" right now I wouldn't be able to as they all sound the same these days. But there are always a few hidden gems like Lupe Fiasco's "dumb it down" in which he describes the current era 10 years ahead of it's time, or his "bad b**tch" in which I think he perfectly demonstrates what you said here;

My point is that teenagers should not adapt on songs that are explicit. I know some of them are just expressing on their own way but some of their fans approach it on a wrong way.

I love the fact that I can go back and listen to Joe budden's "stuck in the moment" or "inseperable" if I want an emotional rollercoaster, that Wale's mixtape "more about nothing" has some of the most beautiful spoken word I've ever heard and that I can go and listen to Royce da 5'9 (as explicit as he is) whenever I want punchlines or just to laugh.

I feel like the real problem is that within every genre the mainstream sells us so much bs, so hard, that we think we have no other choice. And that is why I get overjoyed when I discover pure talent such as this band that aren't using nudity or the "popular" key phrases of the moment to go viral. And for that I am thankful @qyugmo, it really was a blissful experience and I think we should all strive to bring our heritage out to the World like you just did :)

Hello! @qyugmo, it is nice to read a publication where you support the local talent, being a music full of healthy context that transports the listener to feel who sings and as my grandmother said: for every occasion there is a song, a great tribute to the band with your excellent photo, I congratulate you sincerely, because I hope to learn a little of your art.

Thank you @olymar248! I really appreciate it.
