The Beatles really had a great impact economically to Liverpool because of tourism and it is good that it bred some artists that maybe got influenced by the iconic band @raj808

Β  Β· Β 6 years agoΒ

Yeah, for sure they had a big influence and I do like the Beatles. But they're not my favourite 60's band. I prefer 'the doors' or Jimi Hendrix if I'm honest. But I really like the Beatles later songs, and know a guy who plays guitar and sings in a Beatles tribute band πŸ™‚

I saw him play in a local pub recently and the whole audience were singing along to 'hey Jude'. That was a lovely evening 🎸

I've only been to Liverpool once ages ago, think I went to some docks, probably a tourist attraction. But the one place that I still remember well was a piece of public art called Turning the Place Over. That was really awesome, and I must have stood there for over 15 minutes just watching it.

Β  Β· Β 6 years agoΒ (edited)

You probably went to the Albert Dock? That's one of the main attractions and it's really nice on a sunny day. I still enjoy going there after over 30 years living in the city. Especially, to people watch and hear all the different accents. Sometimes I'll have a drink in the pump house pub there because you can always have interesting conversations with people from all over the world.

Turning the Place Over was an amazing art instillation. I remember the first time I saw it. I was entranced also as I'd missed reading about it in the local paper so I didn't know it was there. I walked down that street next to moorfields station and the side of the building just started moving. My jaw honestly dropped, and I was wondering for a minute if I was going insane having hallucinations until a couple stopped to watch it as well.

Awesome pictures and commentary, @raj808. I have never been to Liverpool. But I just added it to my bucket list! And I’m counting on you to show me around. 😊

Β  Β· Β 6 years agoΒ

P.s.

Here's one of my favourite liverpool bands that no one knows from outside the UK. They fit with the spirit of what I'm talking about in this post. I love the Beatles... but these guys are just as good. They just aren't as famous. Check emm out. πŸ™‚

πŸ™‚100% I'm around for any of my steem sisters and brothers to show them around the city. Beatles places included, but also the hidden gems of Street art, drinking culture and general alternative culture.

I have to admit, I wrote this post in the pub on partiko over a pint and inspired by some lively debate, with other Saturday sun-loving drinkers, on what makes the city gr8. Also, I'd spent a very pleasant day in the city with friends; then wandered about a bit checking out some spots that I know graffiti artists hit on the regular.

Now watching a bit of football and the scousness is running strong in my soul 🀣

It seems to have great street art in Liverpool... I hope other posts about it ;-)

Β  Β· Β 6 years agoΒ

No worries m8. There will be plenty more coming. This is only one of around twenty places that has such Street art in the city.

Maybe next time I'll include YouTube links to the alternative music from the city to accompany the art.

Fck it. Here's one of my favourite liverpool bands that no one knows from outside the UK. Check emm out. πŸ™‚

Liverpool, una ciudad muy interesante. algΓΊn dΓa, cuando la cadena de bloques nos cambie la vida, irΓ© a visitarte para ir a bucear contigo.

Β  Β· Β 6 years agoΒ

I'm still waiting for a change of government in my country.
I'm sure it's not long.
Meanwhile I tell you that I have more than 60 dive sites, for all levels. caves, shipwrecks, night and deep.
good visibility and water at 23 degrees, suit of 3 millimeters

I suppose Liverpool having been the home of The Beatles is somewhat of a double edged sword then, @raj808. There being so much more to Liverpool, but most outside of Liverpool or somewhere nearby not ever knowing. Hopefully, if they're coming because of The Beatles, they can still find what else there is to see and understand if they come looking for it. My guess is, many won't, but some will. :)

Β  Β· Β 6 years agoΒ

Yes, you're right glen. It is a bit of a double edged sword for sure. All the tourist and Beatles stuff is cool, but there's a tone more to see. Especially in the music and art scene. There's a load of literary things and drama going down also. Poetry nights and gr8 plays at the Everyman theater. My guess is that anyone who stays more than 3 or 4 days discovers sone of this stuff πŸ™‚

We get a lot of cruise ships coming through since they dredged the channel of the Mersey around 5 years ago, so I see more day trippers nowadays and these are the people who tend to just stick to the Albert Dock and the Beatles stuff.

I had idea the Liverpool was even famous because of Beatles πŸ˜ƒ Still haven't been there yet, but someday...

There is so much more than the Beatles. But they're 100% an important part of the Liverpudlians soul.

As are a band called 'The Laa's'... Or 'The Corral' or most recently, 'The Zutons'. Check out these bands.

If you visit Liverpool, hit me up! I'll take you on a tour of the pubs and places where the Beatles dreamed, and where a friend of mine who is in the zutons dreamed. Where I construct the bones of my poetry from the architecture of those creatives that came before me. Where Jung examined his interpretation of dreams in the collective unconscious.

It's a journey. Of art and artists, poets and writers; musicians and dreamers. That is the beating heart of this city that I love. Creative nourishment... Flows down the river.

Ha ha, our maybe I'm just drunk πŸ˜‰

I'm a real sucker for street art.

'Commercial' tho that Lennon (2 ns?) portrait is it's fantastic - the brick texture really adds.

The more alt. art reminds of Beavis and Buthead.

I was thinking you were too young for the '80s but then aged 5 fair enough - proper schooling!

You've just reminded me of my doll years - A particular moment watching the footage on the news post anti-fascist march and there's one of us in the 'background screenshot' brick in hand, pulled back and ready to release at the police/ fascists.

Thankfully one thing about even the '90s when that was is the surveillance tech cldn't ID people back then!

Never been to Lpool. Nice post and I sense a series coming up somehow!

Β  Β· Β 6 years agoΒ

Yeah m8. The movements in the 80's particularly, were strong in Liverpool. The city was pretty bad at that time. Toxteth where I grew up was depressed hugely, pretty much a ghetto, as much as you can get in a Western society. This was partly due to Thatcher removing a huge amount of funding to the city after the toxteth riots. Make of that what you will.

The street art here now is awesome though. Beavis and butthead I remember well πŸ™‚

I am the great cornholio.... And I need TP for my butthole 🀣
