Gallus gallus domesticus Theropoda!

Finished

When I posted my finished drawing my commenters wanted the background to stay blank or add a blue sky with clouds. I decided to accommodate both choices. I put the blue sky and clouds inside the balloon and kept the background blank. Thank you all for your critiques and ideas, you all are part of this painting.

I always feel like I will never finish a big piece, the details can be overwhelming. However, I enjoyed each layer and struggling with my vision throughout this painting.

To avoid feeling overwhelmed I break my painting down into steps. I usually work with three layers, outline-color-shadow and detail. I first outline my idea on transfer paper. Transfer paper is tough and thin. I can erase as much as I want, if I erase on watercolor paper, this will scuff the surface, and my paint will not flow evenly. Once I finish my idea of the drawing I want to paint I transfer the image using graphite transfer paper to my watercolor paper. I don't transfer the details onto my watercolor just the outline. I fill in the detail when I start painting.

I usually paint using primary colors, blue, yellow, and red for my first layer of color. I then add colors to make secondary and tertiary colors. I like to layer with opaque watercolor paints called gouache, and I also use ink pens for outlining and detailing.

I will start my painting depending on how I feel, sometimes I do the background first, or pick a subject and work my way around the painting one subject at a time adding layers and details as I go. I add color and shadow to my second layer. Usually, around the third layer, I am adding details and more shadow to give my images depth.

Most of the time I know when I am done, I feel like I can't add any more, and sometimes I can't stand looking at the painting anymore...hahaha...That is when I know I have to finish up the work. But sometimes I have to work through the boredom and tedious feelings because I know I am not done. Developing discipline and patience happens when you draw or write no matter how you feel at the same time every day. I set a goal I want to hit every hour and through the day.

I have a routine I follow to help set up a good attitude for my painting and writing. I get up early around 6 am, drink some water, meditate and go through this routine that isn't set in cement, but I try and follow this when I have to write and paint. I feed the animals, clean up any messes in our house, fix some coffee, read the news. When I am done I sit down and start painting or writing, I get up every hour and stretch, have some water and get back to work, no excuses. At the end of the day I fix dinner starting around 3 pm, take a walk with my husband after the dinner mess is cleaned up, he does dishes and I relax, we watch and movie and are in bed by 10:30.

How birds evolved from dinosaurs.n the 1990s, an influx of new dinosaur fossils from China revealed a feathery surprise. Though many of these fossils lacked wings, they had a panoply of plumage, from fuzzy bristles to fully articulated quills. The discovery of these new intermediary species, which filled in the spotty fossil record, triggered a change in how paleontologists conceived of the dinosaur-to-bird transition. Feathers once thought unique to birds, must have evolved in dinosaurs long before birds developed. The dinosaur and the gravity paradox.

Oh @reddust , you have to know how I have waited for this to reach it's conclusion. It's perfect - the colors, the vibrancy ........................magnifique!

To see the final painting would have been a pleasure I am sure but follow the journey, as it came to life was so much more satisfying. As someone who has been following this painting from from the beginning I actually want to write a poem about it.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

@hashcash, you can write a poem and I will include it with the little story I am writing. I will be posting the story with the picture this Friday...I will give you 1/2 the profits from the final payout...hehehe

We can have a collaboration... <3

      Would love that :-)
What's the story about any hints ???

        ·  7 years ago (edited)

@hashcash, Elisabeth and her magical rooster (haven't figured out a name) can travel through time and visit alternative universes. The balloon is filled by her creative imagination giving her friend the rooster an added boost when he is jumping through time or into alternative universes.

I think I will write about how the rooster hatched and E discovered she and her rooster had magical powers when they work together.

Sweet! I'd love to pen something down about that.
BTW, 1/2 is too much for me. As long as I get a mention........... I'd feel like this:

(Yesterday I collaborate with @skeptic and we actually had the same conversation)

        ·  7 years ago (edited)

@hashcash, You are friends with the @skeptic, OMG...he is a legend, fighting whales and totally getting his account devalued by the flag wars...he never gave up, I admire they guy, but maybe the account is a girl, but I always thought of the skeptic as a he...but I dunno...hehehe

I thought he was guy but who cares...........I mean I like the dude/dudess :-)

Hey check out my latest post - He drew a little something and I wrote a little something and that is our first collab.

I knew you were great, I love your poem, it felt like it was written just for me...thats when I know poems are great :p hahaha <3

Such incredible talent for sure. I feel like there could be a whole animated series around this character and their companion rooster. Think avatar the last airbender? I'd love to see that! Following for your future work :)

In my opinion you have taken an great and right decision by including both opinions of people, and literally speaking now it's have that lively essence and also reflecting as the girl who is standing in balloon will fly with Chickenosaurus. Thank you @steemitcountry, I had a lot of fun working on this piece. Meditation helps me develop patience and discipline to continue no matter how much I doubt my abilities to produce what I can see in my imagination...hehehe <3

meditation really helps us to focus our minds, as the mind gets focused all the better our work, I am sure you are more and more adept at putting it into practice @reddust

my husband often meditate (tawajjuh) in the middle of the night), when the most quiet, when all sleep, we wake up to meditate, seek clarity of mind, you are amazing @reddust,
about your picture for it really is perfect, want to feel melat directly but it is not possible ,, ha ha aha

I was taught how to meditate so I only need 4 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period...however I can only do that when I am at retreat. I get to distracted at home...your husband is better at meditation than I am...hehehe

Good job , it's a great idea to put blue sky and clouds inside the balloon.

I think the clouds inside the balloon are the best part of the painting and I wouldn't of thought of that idea without my friends <3

chickenosaurus" lit up the science world last week when researchers announced they had modified the beak of a chicken embryo to resemble the snout of its dinosaur ancestors.

        ·  7 years ago (edited)

I read about the modified beaks a couple years ago...maybe my memory is wrong...the problem with growing dinosaurs is our gravity. Huge dinosaurs couldn't move their massive bodies because of today's gravity. That's why the biggest animal we have today is the elephant and they have a hard time running...lolol

Such a fantastic art work @reddust. You created various bird like as animal. Its fun to see but behind story more meaningful. I like your long term vision. Appreciate your beautiful & great job @reddust.
