The Blue Footed Booby - Red Dust Art

in art •  7 years ago  (edited)

Sula nebouxii ORDER: SULIFORMES FAMILY: SULIDAE

Painted just for the Steemit platform. I picked the Blue Footed Booby because I saw a lot of human naked boobies floating around Steemit before the mute button was installed. I find the birds prettier and more interesting then naked bodies doing varies absurd sexual poses. The Booby's dance to bond with their life mate, which is beautiful and funny at the same time. You know the reason why the Booby has blue feet? The brighter the blue the healthier the bird, this makes picking a mate easier. If you watch the Booby mating dance you will see the birds picking their webbed feet high off the ground, showing them off.

I grew up drawing animals, especially horses, which was natural. My Mom owned a Morgan horse ranch on the West side of Mt Hood, we had a 40 acres of pasture nestled in the foothills of the Cascade range in the state of Oregon. I spent most of my childhood caring for my siblings, farm animals, hiking, foraging, fishing, hunting, swimming the cold clear streams in the deep wilderness of the Northwest Cascades.

Last year I was going to do a series of birds and immediately forgot about it. Blame it on Pokemon and my Granddaughter. My forgetfulness has nothing to do with my old age!

I should work on at least one animal painting a month and I am writing this on my todo list so I won't forget.

I love seeing your paintings. You're very talented. Im curious, what do you do with all of them? Hang on to em?

@Intrepidthinker, I store away my paintings. I am putting together a portfolio for summer festivals and shows. With my steemit earnings I now can afford to frame some of my art for shows. I never do anything just for one reason...hahaha, thank you!

You're welcome. Just being honest. Lol

That's super cool! Any idea how many you have? A guesstamate? Haha

I think I've averaged about 3 pieces a month for the last 12 months, which is 36 pieces. I haven't counted, but there are only a handful of really good pieces. And some of my work is illustration for books I want to write.

Ahhh, I see. Stayin busy. Lol You should have no problem putting a show together. I look forward to your next one.

This is wonderful! I'm glad you wrote a little bit about yourself, I think we have many things in common, after I started following you. I also drew a lot of horses in the childhood, but never really had the opportunity to have horses in my everyday life, I learnt horse riding a bit but not much. Fun fact: in my language, Polish, those birds also have a funny name, namely głuptak. If I tried to translate it literally, it would be something like "stupido", or "stupider" hah :) Thank you for this post, have a nice day! :) Klaudia

Booby means stupid in the English language as well, but the animals aren't stupid. It's smart to have a marker like blue feet to show one is healthy enough to produce healthy offspring. I wish people had blue feet....hahaha

Riding and caring for horses gave me a bunch of skills that I still use in everyday life. I think caring and working with animals is an essential part of our humanness. We've been working with animals for over 10,000 years. Milk cows and horses were recorded in stone somewhere in Turkey, an ancient ritual site was uncovered blowing archeologist theory of human settlements out of the waters.

I really like the Polish people, you have been through so much in your country. You know what is really going on in the world.

I love it booby's instead of boobies ;) Made me laugh. Good painting too!

With my dyslexia I have a hard time with booby's and boobies, which can be embarrassing in written in the wrong context...hahaha, thank you @donnadavisart!

its so cool to know about ur child hood u spent ur time in farms and enjoy thats time in really natural beauty i also like hicking in hills also ur art of blue foot boobies is awesome mam

@robrowe, as a child I didn't know how unique my life was. Now when I speak of riding horses, taking care of livestock, fishing, hunting, the huge Douglas Fir rain forest of the Pacific Northwest people say how lucky I was as a child. I would like to go back to that simpler time, we lived like that because living in the country wasn't expensive. Now living in the country and owning land is too expensive for most.

Also our federal government cut down most of our old growth forests...Oregon is not the same without it's huge forests.

so nice artwork!!! I've never seen a blue footer bird, but they are so cute (and funny while are dancing ^_^
PS: I also think the birds are more interesting then naked bodies doing varies absurd sexual poses :0)

After caring for humans most of my life, one naked body is like the next. Although I do appreciate the beauty of the human body when it is artistically rendered. I just don't like porn, it's boring.

me too. I think the human body, male or female, is a sort of artwork and I like to exercise my hands drawing parts of naked body, but I don't like porn (that for the most of the time is just a series of trash-pics)

pretty cool that they use their feet to attract a partner. That would be very hard for me to do with my feet let me tell you . They are not even blue for starters.

The painting is awesome and there is something special about drawing animals. I enjoyed doing it a lot in art class

I wish humans had colored feet so we could see how healthy our partner really is...of course I am sure people would figure out a way to cover up their unhealthiness just like they do today.

beautiful animal the color is very particular, i mean that blue color has a function in their habitat. Regards red

Thank you @dim753, nature does not make sense sometimes until you watch it for awhile, then the truth comes out with enough time and investigation.

Yes nature and live is simply awesome just see how a fish can live under 8000mtrs wow red wow

OMG, my next favorite subject to paint is sea life! Yeah, nature is simple and complex at the same time. Scientist just scratched the surface of the secrets nature has hidden.

Thank you @jun2, nature soothes the frayed mind and calms the troubled heart. Art helps you discover who you truly are and helps build discipline and a healthy mind.
