Shepard Fairey has always been politically and socially charged with his work. His brand Obey started as a simple sticker campaign in 1989, with the Obey Giant inspiring people to question their relationship with their surroundings. Fairey’s launched into the mainstream spotlight with his HOPE posters supporting Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. With “Damaged”, his largest solo exhibition to date, he continues to present his commentary on the state of politics, media, human rights, the global approach to the environment, and more.
Presented by the Library Street Collective, “Damaged” opened in a warehouse in Downtown Los Angeles on November 11th and will run to December 17th. The exhibition will showcase over 200 never-before-seen paintings, large-scale sculptures, retired stencils, prints, and more.
“The state of our society is damaged,” said Fairey. “I know it sounds pretty dire, but acknowledging that we need to do better is the first step, ” states Fairey.
