Communist Propaganda Public Art in Xuejia

in art •  7 years ago

With all of the market changes sweeping through China, it's easy to forget, sometimes, that this is still, in name, a Communist country. There is one place, however, where you can and do run into public propaganda on a routine basis, and that can be public parks.  Here are some examples that I found in Xuejia, northern Changzhou.

This is a case where it's not just propaganda. I find stuff more interesting as public art. However, over in that Xuejia park, most of it was gernalized. For example, the above is about Lie Feng, a PRC soldier that often shows up in public propaganda.  Here are some of the other black painted engravings.

A lot of times, when parks do these, sometimes it is the same stories. I am basically on the hunt for local stuff like the following for example.

These three are Zhang Tailai, Yun Daiying, and Qu Qiubai -- three prominent people in CPC history and from Changzhou. This is also the reason why I often go to parks. It's stuff like this that gives a person starting points when researching local history, when, as an outsider, you don't know where to start.

They have a lot of similar propoganda art here in Vietnam, and I always find it fascinating. They often put up billboard displays as well. They are pretty neat Nice post, I enjoyed it @richristow! Upvoted and following.
