These sculptures with sublime muscles, beautiful skins, expressions so real that you can believe that such an angelic face can be real, make those sculptures are not easy to make, it could take years to achieve those finishes but even if they were thousands of years ago, they still being considered masterpieces and with all the reasons in the world, it can be seen at first sight when you see those impeccable works, so perfect that you can take your breath away with a single glance.
For this occasion when speaking of Renaissance sculptures, since that is what brings us here, I will talk about two great geniuses of art and great rivals among themselves, Leonardo Da Vinci and Miguel Ángel.
Comenzare hablando de Da Vinci, it's said that he was the first artist to have a blog with anatomical studies, apart from being a good painter, he had great intelligence, there are also certain rumors that the great Leonardo, was drugged with opium to be able to resist so many hours of work, since you could lock up weeks painting, investigating, studying, just stopping to sleep a few hours, eating and satisfying your basic needs. His anatomical studies are still references for some academies, since they were very detailed, although there are not as many records of them.
In another hand, we have the sculptor, who by mere chance was also a great painter but we can leave that story for another time, Miguel Ángel, he had an impeccable technique, I can sin when he said that it was a school for other sculptors, he made a piece of marble something truly beautiful, he was a real artist, from nothing he created something sublime, the details the veins, muscles, expressions, even the fabrics that pickled those bodies was a genius.
But how did these two do their studies of the human body? Well, they bought bodies, yes, I'm not playing, they bought the corpses of the dead in the morgue, they dissected them to see the direction of each muscle, of each bone, as each vein was marked, they obtained the corpses of people who had not been recognized, prisoners, prostitutes , without purposes of people that nobody had gone to ask for, they bought it, I don't know at what cost and I do not dare to speculate about it. I have no place to judge their actions when buying those bodies, because they really gave it a use, for their studies but they used them, even if it sounds "ugly".
Consider seriously thatThe morgue of Italia, I can be sure, that it was full of smelly bodies, without identity, it will not have been difficult with a bit of bribery and some other contact, get the inert body and open it and review it completely. Miguel Ángel it took a little more to the sculptures, to represent with a hammer, a chisel and a stone what he had investigated, what he had learned by studying the muscles live and direct with the corpses, leaving us a legacy of precious and excellent sculptures , on the other corner, is Da Vinci, he did the dissection of bodies a little more to make illustrations of the human body, giving entrance to the illustrations of the medicine books, both equally locked with the dead, to study it carefully.
There is the secret of his excellence, as I said, these two great schools made the following artists, they are still great references to study the human body to apply to the arts.
Incredible, and well written. Thanks!
