A cup of tea (Drawing process/Drawing tips)

Hi guys, I bring you a step by step of a drawing that I did quickly, some things if they are very personal but the first steps I think you can use them to learn how to make your drawing come out proportionally well, at least, an inanimate object, I hope that serves them something, well, here we go.

If you want your drawing to be centered on the sheet, my recommendation is to divide the sheet like this in this photo, so you can give an idea where the object would go, it should be noted that this drawing was explicitly done as an example so you could give yourself an idea of how to focus something, let's say, very punctual.

For the next step, usually, I make a geometric figure as a square to fit the object much better, this can vary, if you are going to square an apple, it would have to be a circle, to fit with geometric figures you have to analyze a bit the figure of the object and thus be able to have a guide and think about which geometric figure could work.

Now that we have our square, we begin to shape the object, that this case is a cup, I made a square with a cylinder inside to shape the cup but it was not the final shape I wanted to give to the cup itself, it's just a simple guide ... A tip, DON’T ERASE, do not obsess over erasing things every time, compulsively erase everything because you do not like the layout you gave, believe me, it only serves to stress you and that the drawing does not convince you at all, every stroke can be an excellent guide for when you are going to outline or define the figure with shadows and lights.

Follow a circle quite elongated for the handle of the cup, well, you know what for? Geometrical figure to have an idea of how to square it.

Let's go to define the cup (I will add that for the cup I do not use a reference at all I just imagine it but if your first time doing something like that, you can look for a cup that you have at home or look for one through the internet, so that you make it easier) I gave it a slightly round shape at the end, I closed the top of the cup much more, I also defined the handle of the cup.

I added one of those laces for the tea bags, well, it says "Cup of Tea, Fuck You" that I did as if giving the fact that this is the brand of tea, as I also made two circles to give you a reference of some lenses, which I would later define, like a piece of leaf under the cup (you see, we already have something a little personal here, that you can also dare to do it)

Well, to make the shadows and give a little color, use a violet marker and a pink highlighter, to define a little more the figures use a black marker, at least in the cup, I made many violet scratches for give a little volume and texture to the drawing, for the strongest shadows, I went to give them a few black scratches in a few areas. For the lenses, I gave many spots of black marker to serve as shadows and fill them with purple a little later.

I made shadows to the part of where the table should be, to have depth and a little logic where the cup was placed. In the same way I gave shade to the leaf that is under the cup, as I did the shadows in some parts to the lenses in the part of the table so that I understood that they were not floating but that they are part of the composition itself .

I made many more violet scratches at the bottom, because I thought it lacked a little more color, I felt that the bottom was very empty. Do not go over the violet shadows a lot, because the marker was beginning to run out of ink, which was very good for me, since I did not want it to have such a strong color because that would somewhat opaque the cup and the other elements of the composition . I also gave pink highlights of the highlighter to give another color to the drawing and not just the violet.

And, BAM! there we have the finished drawing, it was a pretty fast drawing that I wanted to put it as an example to frame and fit an object on a sheet, so that this one interested, can take as an example this advice that I gave him, and I emphasize (in case you do not remember it) do not erase so much, let be the strokes free, they also serve to make the drawing better.

To say goodbye, I want to tell you, try it, do not lose anything, go ahead and draw a little, we all have the capacity to do it. No more to say, I say goodbye, I hope you liked it, that it has served you or can serve you or someone you know, if you want to say something or a suggestion, happy that you comment, I can read and respond.
