I have needed to relax more lately. Drawing trees is a great way to take me to a zen place.
Some of these trees were inspired by John Mitchell's The Curious Naturalist.
I met Mitchell in person twice at a Sudbury, Ma fair and he has published several books about illustrating wildflowers and other Massachusetts wildlife for several decades.
Great drawings. Very serene and inviting. It reminds me of the poem I had to study in school:
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
