PXLPET is a community game which is powered trough your comments and engagement. It's about taking care of your own virtual pet. With each of these future blog post you'll have the chance to win a pet which will then find a home on a pixel art canvas. You decide if you want to trade, just collect your new friends or upgrade your pet's home. All trough the power of your comments.
How to Play
Each PXLPET is unique, therefore rare and just waiting to be friends with you. You can become the owner of these cuties by commenting under the most recent PXLPET blog posts. If your comment gets the most upvotes you'll win the pet and your username will be shown above its head. Congratulation you are a proud PXLPET owner! Your pet will from now on live in a lovely video which will be updated regularly. In case you win again you'll get upgrades for your pet. These could be an item or even a house.
Everybody who wants to participate has to resteem the post and at least upvote one comment of another participant. If there is a draw in upvotes the comment author who posted first will win. Since there will be many upvotes in the comment area, commenting could be also lucrative for you. You have one week to participate. After that week the winner will be announced. There are no rules for commenting. You can post images, gifs and jokes. Just be creative and get attention.
You like trading and collecting? Have a chat with a pet owner and decide about the details. If you are a owner and want to trade, let me know and I will update the ownership for the next video. It's up to you if you want to trade your pet for SBD.
The Playground
The playground is pretty empty for now. Hopefully this will change in the future. It's a calming forest and the place where your pet will live and meet friends. This video will be updated on a regular base. Also the environment will change from time to time.
Future of PXLPET.
I think, the rules of this community game will often change in the future. I'll have to look how the game mechanics will turn out and whether they will work in terms of fairness. I'll also for sure add some new things and special events. The deadline for voting may also get bit shorter, so the pixel world will change more frequently. If you have ideas how to improve the game experience feel free to let me know.
PXLPET will also become a social experiment since the space on the canvas is limited and there will possibly be many pet owners who have to share this space. Mechanics to conquer items and houses of other pet owners could be a possibility. You would have the choice if you want to be kind or cruel.
I think PXLPET is a fun project and I hope you are as exited as me to see how this pixel world will evolve. Let's see how it turns out. I hope this experiment gives some value to the Steemit platform and makes it an even better place! Future posts will use this #pxlpet hashtag. I'd love to have a PXLPET! 💗💗💗
I think it would be cool if there is a way to declare pet ownership as a sub token on the steem blockchain, much like @biophil created POCKETS as a sub token. Or when the new Steem SMTs are released, make a PXLPET token, release a very limited supply, and have every token associated with one PXLPET! Buy one unique token to get one unique pet!
Also, would be cool if the pets have stats. You may want to expand PXLPETS in the future so they can play together/against each other in a game format. So at a minimum, give each pet a random value for Health, Offense, Defense. Or whatever you decide. :)
I have some ideas sketched out for some Steem related games. I may approach you in the future for some graphics work. You got da skillz!

Yes, that sounds pretty cool! But if I would add stats I would have to program a real mmo like game and I think this is quite havy for me at the moment. Maybe I have to collaborate with a more advanced programmer at some point. The PXLPET token also sounds interesting! Thanks for your inspiration! I hope the game will be fun the way it is for now! I was wondering when someone would make a Steemit-based pet project :)
This is how I envision my pet, once I've taught him how to be a good mad scientist (just, you know... more PXLier ;) ):
I do imagine the principle behind pet distribution could be adjusted, as it can be gamed pretty easily by a small group getting together and agreeing to upvote a specific persons comment, and then distributing the pets between them, or just someone with a botnet.
But that can always be adjusted if it's obviously happening.
As for game mechanics... I think a bot could be set up to watch for comments/posts of people with a PXLpet, and then keep a leaderboard and award a small upgrade to the pet of the person who was the most active on Steemit.
Like a little Award the pet can carry with it.. that gets bigger...and bigger.. the more the person wins, until it has to leave it somewhere in the background. the award of course has the name of the user and an image of his/her pet on it at that point ;)

I like the idea of an leaderboard. But I have to look up some things since I never made a bot before. I also thought that the items should show the name of the owner. These little guys are so awesome, what a cool concept. I grew up on SNES so I have a soft spot for all things pixel art, and needless to say this is right up my alley.
I couldn't get behind the crypto kitty craze because I'm honestly not a fan of the designs but I think the concept of it is genius. #Pxlpet appeals to me because of the aesthetic, and I think a core of your community is going to be coming from the retro gaming community as well...something to think about anyway! I'll try and spread the word.
A few questions for you:
What does the proof of ownership look like for a pxlpet? Is it structured like crypto kitties? Will you be able to purchase and breed these little guys in the future?

But my intention with this project was to create a relaxing world, where you can feel at home for a few minutes every now and then. With your little buddy. :D It was more about a community thing. I think, CryptoKitties is more about trading. But If someone wants to trade I can easily change the ownership in the next update of the video. Every pet will have the username of its owner above its head. Hope that makes it easier to understand. Btw. is the pixel forest your work? It looks amazing!
