Papel Picado - San Antonio Travel Sketchbook Original Drawing

San Antonio's culture is deeply influenced by Mexican heritage. I went to crafts market downtown to draw and found the courtyard festooned with "papel picado" banners. These traditional Mexican cut paper decorations brought cheer to the scene and made the place feel more like a specific "place" and not just any shopping area anywhere else. I decided to attempt to capture a silk cut paper banner in this drawing by capturing the negative space. I wanted to keep the drawing loose and fast.
