✨ Painting illustrations about the Italian proverbs: #1 ✨

in art •  8 years ago

✨ At first, as you can see in the title, I just discovered the Emoticons on Steemit and I'm feeling like a child with a new toy, sorry ^_^  ✨

I've always loved the proverb and here, in Italy, we have a lot of them and varies from region to region. Sometimes I enjoy painting funny illustrations about them ^_^

In this post I'm inaugurating a series of illustrated italian proverbs, so you can learn something about the country where I live and the Italian traditions.

The first proverb is:

 ➽ Cielo a pecorelle, acqua a catinelle.

literally means "Sky full of lambs, water in form of bowls". Sometimes we use the variation "Cielo a pecorelle, PIOGGIA a catinelle" ("pioggia" means rain)

We use this proverb when, watching the sky, the clouds look like a flock of sheep and soon it will start raining hard.

Sometimes, in the popular wisdom/folklore, we can find scientific bases, as in this proverb. The clouds that seem sheep are cirrocumulus clouds and they are bad weather indicators.

There are a lot of clouds types, the cirrocumulus are in the high of the sky with the Cirrus and the Cirrostratus. In the middle we can find Altocumulus and Altostratus (curiosity: "alto" in italian means high, not middle ^_^) and in the low there are stratocumulus, small cumulus and stratus.

It's not over yet! In vertical we can find Cumulonimbus, cumulus and nimbostratus! Fantastic names, I think!

Ok, I'm confused, I'm only a woman that watch the clouds to find strange animals in the sky!

The cirrocumulus appears white and not larger, usually they are organized in rows. It's simple for us to see that they look like sheep ;) Someone called them "herringbone" or "mackerel sky", but "flock of sheep" is more funny than the others, do you know?

At the next!

I'm looking forward to your new series. I also love proverbs in both Italian and English.

The world of proverbs is really intriguing. Every country have their own proverb on the same subject and sometimes it's so funny. For example, our sky is full of sheep, but somewhere it's raining cats and dogs :D
