Working on a big canvas

in art •  7 years ago

I started to work on a big canvas. It's the bigger canvas that I've never painted and so I work in the lab, where I can paint with some vigorous brush strokes without  fear of spots everywhere ^_^

I'm painting with my gouache colors on a piece of old (and raw) cotton fabric without treatment .

I think I'll work on it for some days, because it's the first time for me on a canvas like this and it's different from a smaller painting on a smaller canvas already on loom, but it's really excited for me and I'm feeling full of energy!

I took some pics for you, but they are not so good because the artificial light.

This painting will be my homage to Diane Arbus and her beautiful photo "Identical twins" ^_^

How long does it normally take to finish a piece?

Ive painted before, but normally the canvas comes up to my knees, ive never attempted something so large before

I usually paint with oil colors and for a smaller canvas (30x40 cm) I need about a week (plus the time to dry, about 2 weeks). Gouache dry fast, but this canvas is very large and so I can add many details, it's the first time for me so I don't know how much time I need to finish it ^_^

I just wrote a piece about art and your post fits perfectly.

I advertised you and sent people your way. I also used your picture. I can edit if you want!

When I bought my first canvas I was a little overwhelmed, when I started painting it felt as natural as paper but I can't imagine what could come to me if I found myself infront of one like this, empty to paint on. It's looking great Silvia! I love the style, you really own it, and you look so happy and beautiful, it radiates out of the screen.

I started to paint just few years ago, so everything I can do it's like a surprise for me. I'm feeling as a child who "play" with colors and who can stain everything without fear, it's really exciting! I found my own style one year ago and now, everything I'm painting, my hands create these freaky men with the large round head, cool! :D

I am waiting to see how this develops. I have never attempted anything that large, would love to, but I haven't the space.
It is already beginning to come together.
Great post, great artwork in the making.

Paint a canvas so large it's very different from smaller and I'm full of spots of colors, but I have to say that it's very exciting! ^_^

I hope you will post more stages of this great project.
Getting covered in splodges of paint, becoming a living work of art is half the fun! 😀

That photo of the twins reminds me of Kubricks twins from The Shining!
