The Leach Potters wheel - hand made by the Amish !

in art •  8 years ago

Thanks for tuning in folks !
A short clip about the the wheel my uncle Dicon Nance designed in the 1940's.
The wheel was initially used at the St Ives pottery, Cornwall UK and then made commercially..production stopped in the 1970's.
Since moving from Spain over here to the US I have them made by John Peachey an Amish man living locally.
He is a master wood worker no doubt about it ! ..old world craftmanship at it's best !

I use these wheel myself as I get a nice feedback from the flywheel as my foot is in contact with the treadle bar ..

I am taking orders on a fresh batch right now !
Keep practicing !

Yes the , but John Peachey is in another dimension, some of the things he makes wowey zowey, intricate carved works etc, chess boards etc !

That is so pretty I would hate to get it dirty, LOL. But after starring at it a few days I would get over that and have to jump in and give it a go. Thanks for showing us the up close and personal view Simon!! Beautiful!!

I know what you mean ! ...but they are a delight to get dirty ! ..welcome here !

Amish people have a lot of good staff. Me and my husband visit them 2 times in the year. Good work man. I love it. I follow you to read more. You welcome to follow me. In my blog there is a short movie about Amish from Wisconsin. Upvote and resteem. 🤗 Have a great day 😊

Why you tagged kr?

Tagged kr because of the great ceramic tradition of that country and my grandfather went there in 1918 and 1935. Thought it might be of interest to Korea....but what say you ? Many of my videos will have kr and that id the reason. Also a lot of 'steemers' in kr !

they use witchcraft!....heehee
