Drawings Influenced by Taoism in the Folding Screens of Choson Dynasty, Korea

in art •  6 years ago

In this post, I’d like to show you the drawings in detail.
There were several kinds of the drawings for the purpose of the folding screens.

Many drawings in the folding screens were about the legendary hermits in Taoism.
The place where those legendary hermits lived in was believed as the paradise in the Eastern Asia.

Below are the legendary hermits.
They were believed to live on the cloud and sometimes on the sea.

The paradise was drawn on the folding screens, at that time one of the most important symbol was the heavenly peaches.

those look amazing

Wow, the legendary hermits? It looked like one of the sophisticated kind of drawings that held a lot of meaning, more than it interpreted, look at the colours, they're more than amazing, the ink seems unfading and the historic event behind the drawing is more than astonishing really.

Agreed @josediccus
The colors seems totally unaffected by time. It provides a look at the state of craftsmanship back then.

Love this style of art really resonates with me for some reason 💯🐒

Learned about the heavenly peaches from the movie about the monkey king. Eaten by the gods and gives immortality.

Outstanding artwork.
I feel this painting is so alive that when telling about the legend of hermit, surely visitors will feel invited to explore the story. with illustrations that are so real they will make this story even better.
And what's interesting is that this is illustrated on a folding screen that requires very high precision. It must have been a very careful person who produced beautiful works.

Really interesting pictures you’ve shown @slowwalker. It’s amazing to see the resemblance of ancient Korean art with their Chinese counterparts. I was recently looking at pictures of the Qing dynasty and could help but notice how the style is more or less same. Idk, might be wrong though.

Can you please provide the source of the images, would love to know more. Thanks.

@slowwalker, It's not surprising to these legendary hermits lived in clouds and sea. Because traditional beliefs most those days. Eastern Asia zone very deserved for lived them. Actually I can read their faces why they lived on sky and somewhere of sea. Those folding screen arts showing proud of traditional artists. Exactly tremendous close captures uploaded here. See you in next post.

@slowwalker the Detail and Beauty of these pieces is wonderful
