Beauty and gracefulness of Aquilegia blue

in art •  7 years ago

Hi everybody!

Here I would like to write my previous post more detailed, with some "step-by-step" explanations, maybe it will be interesting and useful for some of you.

We all love flowers simply because of their beauty and their bright colors. This time I tried painting a flower called Aquilegia blue, which since medieval times in Norway was a symbol of goddess of love and fertility Freya. It is also a symbol of the state of Colorado in the US.

So let us start the drawing!
Step 1.
Draw the outline of the flower with pencil. This is the draft only and it will disappear as I start the painting putting a few coats of the oil on top.

Step 2.
Prepare the oil, main colors: blue, green, dark brown, light brown, yellow and white.
Step 3.
Paint the whole flower with light blue mixed with white as a base.

Step 4.
Then start painting the pistil and stamen using green, yellow and brown. Add some light brown to give shadow.
Step 5.
Draw the branch and leaves mixing light green and dark green.
Step 6.
Intensify the blue color for some parts. Done!

I hope you will like my work.
Thank you!
