During my recent time in Cairo, I found myself researching Egyptian artists. The first artist I became interested in was Margaret Nakhla. Although I couldn't find much information about her or the name of her paintings, I still wanted to share her work as I find it very aesthetically pleasing. I was surprised when I began my research. Turns out, I've seen her work before, I just didn't know her name.

Margaret Nakhla was born in Alexandria, Egypt on December 10th, 1908. She studied art in France where she specialized in oil painting. Nakhla received her teaching diploma in 1939. Eleven years later, she studied the art of wall painting at the Louvre. She spent her time living in Alexandria, Paris, Port Said and Cairo. She also taught at the Institute of Fine Arts for Girls in Egypt. I couldn't find where the institute was located but I assume it was in Cairo or Alexandria.

She won many awards for her work as well. In 1932, Nakhla received a gold medal from the Society of Fine Arts in Alexandria, a medal from the Paris International Exhibition in 1937, first prize at the Cairo International Market(1957) and the Cairo Salon Exhibition(1959) as well as many others.

Nakhla passed away in 1977.
Although Renaissance art will always carry first place in my heart, the vibrant and animated work produced during the Modern era stands right behind it. As I've stated before, work by artists such as Derain and Dufy remind me of my childhood. It reminds me of the books I used to read, the shows I used to watch and looking at such bright and lively work brings joy to my heart. Margaret Nakhla's work does the same.
I just wanted to say that I'm glad to be back on Steemit. I was living in Cairo for over a month, and it was difficult to keep up with posting for many reasons. With that said, I'm excited to be able to post again on this incredible platform.
Thanks for coming by! Don't forget to follow for more!
Glad your back.
