This month I asked my design and photo students a simple question. "What do you hope for?" I wanted to see if all of this political turmoil and unrest in the world is affecting them. Its interesting how a lot of HS students simply are not aware of everything that is going on around them. The more we talked about it, the more interested they became in finding out what others around them "hoped for."
So I decided to curate a project. Take 8 foot tall letters, pull students into our class and ask them the simple question, "what do you hope for?" The project took us about 3 weeks. We started by taking portraits of students holding up a black piece of paper where they wrote their answer. We made sure all the photos had a white background and then we pasted the pictures with wheat paste onto the letters. The pictures were 10 X 15 and it took us about 3 days to paste all the photos onto the plywood letters. Here is the finished product:
