Diving through the pools of artistry that laps along the trails of digital landscapes I’ve come across the following works of art. Appreciate them and admire the aesthetic essences found within.
Artist: Camilla Derrico
I’ve known about Camilla for a long time, first seeing her work in an art magazine back in high school. I love finding these artists that I immediately recognize, which Camilla is certainly exemplary in her ideal motif and composition. Please give her your warm appreciation.
Eye Sea Hue
Immediately I get a slight shock value, but this is calmed by the colors and overall composition. It’s not really all that haunting, as the bubble-gum colors and slightly desaturated hues console the insectoid forms of the butterflies. The story of her face being covered and the butterflies being her “eye’s” is a simple and effective story to employ.
Fishbowl
Surrealistically cute in every way. The menagerie of colors that swirl around the floating girls head, which is further enamored with the gelatinous forms of various sea creatures. The pallid background of clouds gives the piece a more moody tone that blends in nicely with the murky cuteness.
The Frog Princess
Works like this always squelch my vocabulary, though it takes a few moments for it come forward. The strong imagery depicting a young girl, limbless with severed arms that lack any of the usual gore is a motif that lacks shock value. It reduces the form to that of an inanimate doll, which still feels very real due to our human awareness and recognizable form association. The frog allegory with the idea of her being a flower sprite, coming forth from the flower with her dress being the petals, develops a highly complex composition with a lot of rich symbolism.
Marshland Priestess
Showing her wider motif use, this work maintains the overall hum-drum feel with the pallid and dark background. The composition is very lively and rich with forms that pull you in. I always like to highlight artists’ that utilize the Picture-in-Picture method which is done here in the orbs in her hair. Instead of the rolling oil-paint that brightens the piece, the cuteness is maintained with her bulging face and the contrasting flesh-less animal makes for an interesting composition.
Artist: Tomas Boersner
Always a joy to find traditional artists like this, embracing a more raw value of creative energy. Tomas has excellent sense of emotive depth in his works that pulls you in looking for answers. Take a look at some of these works and you’ll see what I mean!
I’m not dead yet
This piece provides a particular emotion of despair and dread; the allegory communicates to us the feeling of imminent death, such that the despair brings about a feeling of being covered in flies with vultures embracing our body with desire to consume our insipid flesh.
under my bed
Creatures that use a human mask always catch my eye; that idea of deception to lure in prey is so coyishly visceral. The planes and forms in the bed sheets make them seem heavy and thick, whilst the creatures tail and lighting gives needed depth.
haunted
This work is just wonderful, something about it really gets to me. The overall composition aids to the story being told: the hint of the door with the knob exposed on the left side, the curtain slightly swaying in the breeze adding motion. We have the focal element with the human form rising up into the middle of the canvas. Misty particles dance upwards as ghostly sprites tickle the person whose elevated towards the mysterious light in the chandelier. This is all further enhanced by the light in the background and right-side wall. I’d love a print of this, it’s great stuff.
always home
Remnants of society washed up on the shore, dark but dawning clouds with a seeking lighthouse bring forth a compelling composition. The name and figure that is the focus on the work gives me the phrase, “Home is where the head is at.”
